Fuji Fujifilm XT-50

It is set up according to my best understanding of this (honestly I don't really understand it at all)
But I was in the shop this morning and their most Fuji knowledgeable assistant was equally baffled, he used their demo model camera to try to make it work, and couldn't do it either

@Irene McC You need to also set APERTURE RING SETTING (A) to COMMAND. Pressing the front command dial will then start cycling between ISO and Aperture.

The other command dial options are similarly "activated" by setting the Film simulation or EV compensation dials to C. C for Command.
 
20 minute phone call to Mr Fuji Cape Town finally sorted it out!
He was initially replicating my situation and was also baffled, but together we figured it out by trying out a variety of settings.
@MarkoV = 100% correct. And various other menu settings. We got there, yay!

Don't ask me for a step by step explanation because during those 20 minutes we tried so many options that I have forgotten what now works
