Fuji's phase detection autofocus for compact cameras explained at DPReview

DPR has an interesting technical discussion of Fuji's phase detection autofocus. It sounds very promising.

Props to Fuji for continuing their tradition of innovation. Now give us a successor to the F200EXR with a 1/1.7" or larger sensor, RAW, and a faster lens!

Definantly interesting. However, it appears only the center is used, so that only center AF can be used in this mode. It also appears that the pixels using this mode will only receive half the light coming in. It will be interesting to see the results and picture quality.

I don't think you will lose much in terms of picture quality. Something like 1% of the total pixels are used for the focusing so that should not be a noticeable hit in quality. The Center AF only is another matter entirely.
