FYI for those who are wondering why...

Sue, I hope the warm cat bed thing works - but if it doesn't, wouldn't a couple of (admittedly agonizing and noisy) nights of being locked out of the bedroom, without you giving in, teach him that moaning or scratching won't change anything and that he's better off using his energy doing something else?
 
I once had a cat (or should I say, she once had me?) who, at around 15 yrs, began yowling at night, even though the bedroom door wasn't closed. Basically, she was getting old and perhaps a little senile, and anxious that she was alone. I made sure I placed her in her favorite chair and gave her a good snuggling at bedtime, and that seemed to reassure her enough to make a positive difference.
