GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Acquisitions Big and Small

I picked up a Sony 70-200 F4ii. Pretty sweet lens. Size, performance and close focus. A quick close up. Can't wait to give it a true run.

Adding to my Pentax-A collection... I have a 50mm f2.8 FA lens but the AF is a little flakey, having a MF equivalent will be handy.
It seems sharp in the way that you can't really go wrong with late period manual-focus 50mm macros - the name brand ones are usually pretty good.

A spiffy near new OM-1 with a NIB 12-45 F4 Pro lens.
Just had to try another "Oly".

I have noticed today that on CEX the OM-1 has fallen under 1.000 £ used, at this price I would consider it a very good value for wildlife and macro enthusiasts (but not as good value for other genres, you can get better IQ and/or smaller/cheaper alternatives instead).

I have managed to not spend a penny this month wage cycle .... Quite the achievement :p

So far, my initial testing has shown this OM-1 to be superior to any other µ43 camera I've owned for MY needs.

This one is a bit more interesting, we bought this Kodak V705 camera sometime in the mid 2000s to replace the old Canon S10 that we gave my sister in law. It was used for a little while until the battery failed and at the time, replacing the battery was as expensive as getting a new Panasonic FZ10K I am going to say, so it just sat with other discarded equipment. I found it when looking for some negatives I was looking to scan and figured out that I can get replacement batteries rather more affordably now, so ordered a new one from Kastar. Spent some time trying to pry the old battery out (swollen, of course).

Will see how it goes when the battery arrives. It does have a CCD sensor and being a Kodak brand, I am guessing it might actually be the "attractive" Kodak CCD sensor. We will see how it goes when the new battery arrives.

Well, that one did not work as well as the Olympus, I am afraid. The new battery arrived, the camera does turn on but displays error 45 which according to the internet means either a bad SD card (not the case) or the lens are not aligned. Now, how the heck am I supposed to align the lens of a tiny camera from 2006, I don't know.

The internet, remembers, and offered helpful advice like "whack it on a flat surface as you turn it on, so the lens align". That does not sound too great, but I tried it, to no avail, I am either very bad at whacking or the camera's "lens alignment" is so bad that a pretty decent whack is not good enough anymore.

so I am afraid that this camera might be relegated to the display pile, as much as I wanted to see if it is any good in 2024.

Ovi, I am amazed at all the turns in equipment you have made just in a year. When I was making a lot of money, I was kind of like you and packages would arrive daily with new cameras, lenses, and accessories. At one time, I had tried almost every brand even though Nikon was my mainstay. I had this urge for several years and then I realized that I would never have everything I desired I stayed with Nikon but did not sell the other and it still lies in my cupboard in nice shape but unused for years. I still have a Nikon D2X, a Fujifilm XT2 with 4 lenses for the Fuji, and 3 for the Nikon and I have settled into Olympus with OM-1 and EM-1X with too many lenses. I am not worried about the minutia of each pixel for IQ and I love the Olympus System and will concentrate on this system for the rest of my natural life which is getting shorter each day.
I guess I don't understand your thoughts on the ability of the OM-1. My wife used it professionally for corporate portraits, for travel, for sports, for wildlife, for fine art, and light painting and we have many 30 X 40 prints on my walls that she photographed with the OM-1.
I still have GAS--I bought a USB-enabled BLX with a charging cord but I am trying to calm it down. In fact, I sold 4 cameras and 4 lenses last month. The rest will probably end up in an estate sale. :)

While not camera related, I did just pre-order the new Apple Watch Series 10. Got the biggun’ - 46mm Black Aluminum.

I use the snot out of my Series 6. I track my exercise, use it for silent notifications and responses when it is not appropriate to grab the phone.

I would keep using the Series 6, but I’ve had it for 4 years now and the battery won’t charge past 75%.

I could have requested a battery replacement, but thought 4 years is a pretty good run on a nearly daily driver watch. They are also taking it in trade for the same price as a new battery, so there you go.

Should be here the end of October sometime.

Cool! I just upgraded from a Series 7 myself. Its battery was ok enough still, but the glass was getting scratchy. I'm probably keeping the old one as a spare (to be worn when the new one is charging :)).

Why the long wait, though? Mine already arrived on Friday.

Not sure, that’s the time frame that Apple posted on my order. Maybe it’s because I got the black aluminum, might be a popular choice and back ordered.

Could be I’m low on the totem pole.

I’m ok to wait, honestly - I’ll just wear the Series 6 for workouts only until then.

Update on my battery purchase: The BLX-1 battery I bought from Amazon arrived on Saturday, It is self-contained and charged with only a USB cord and does not need a charger. The brand is BM and I paid about $30.00 with tax but it was on the site for 27.99. I charged it with a plug-in USB adapter. It was reasonably fast and shows fully charged on the OM-1 battery indicator. I have shot with it all day and it performs well. I see little difference between it and the OM original battery.

My latest acquisitions.
Mamiya NC1000s and Canon EOS 100, both untested, but I now have a bulk roll of Fomapan 100, so I'll soon find out

I think a bulk roll of Fomapan 100 sounds like a great time - as long as it has no manufacturing inconsistencies, which seem to crop up now and then. I had a bulk roll of Foma 200 and enjoyed it, but 100 is probably my favorite B&W film. Its look is so classic and it is chef's kiss with Rodinal.

Cheers, and as it happens , I'm using Rodinal for everything at the moment, including some Chinese Shanghai 120 film , just hope these latest cameras are OK, ...well see (y)

Topcon RE Auto Topcor 5.8cm 1.8, the 1.4 have gotten too expensive () for a lens I already have alternatives to, but from what I read, the 1.8 is maybe a touch sharper even, so no slouch so when a cheaper one popped off, I had to dust that Exakta (*) adapter I have and use it.

It's a very pretty lens and shooting with it seems pleasant, but I did not look at the results yet, so this is still to come

(*) I read that the 1.4 was so good that Cosina/Voigtlander licensed the design and that's what their 58mm 1.4 for Nikon F mount is

(**) I always find Exakta lenses harder to mount, maybe that's why there are sometimes better deals for old lens in this mount

I've been pondering Topcor lenses for the rangefinder - they do seem very nice.
