GAS GAS: Please Share your Latest Acquisitions Big and Small

I’ve got a family trip to London coming up in a couple of months and we are travelling light so no chance of taking a tripod. With that in mind, I’ve been looking at alternatives, and magic arms with a super clamp kept popping up. Got a cheeky Amazon gift card from work so invested it in one of these from Smallrig.

My thinking is that in a city there are generally plenty of things to attach this to, and it is so small and light that it’ll take up no room in my bag. Also, I think I’ll be able to use it for mounting a speedlight and small softbox for portraits.

Had a bit of a play with it today, very impressed so far. It’s minuscule, but definitely punches above its size. I added the head from my tripod for extra flexibility (although the screw fits directly into the camera tripod mount), I think this is going to work really as an alternative for a tripod.

That's pretty cool. I could see adding my pistol grip ball head to that and it'd have a carry handle built-in too.

I like that idea!

The dual 1/4” screws mean that there are loads of things that can be attached. I think I’m going to add another super clamp at some point so I can use it to hold a reflector, and a cold shoe fitting so that I can mount a speedlight off-camera for macro work. Might also look into a tablet mount for when I tether… and a second magic arm could also be needed.

Just bit the bullet and bought the PIXII 32GB camera. I will now be checking my porch every day, maybe a few times a day, for that camera. I like the concept. The images seem good, in the vein of my M9 which while much loved is getting old. And it is a new direction in camera technology. I am quite thrilled.

That looks pretty neat. I hope you start a pixii thread. I'd love to see the images.

I do intend to post info on the camera once I have it. The return window is short, 15 days. So I will run out with my M8.2 (APS-H) and do some side-by-sides with the Canon 28mm LTM f/2.8 which is a sweet lens and the CV 35mm Nokton II 1.4 at first. I would later like to run it with my sweet copy of a Jupiter 8. I am quite hopeful. I am also an unabashed Francophile and disappointed in Leitz. They really could be more innovative and still stay within the bounds of Barnakville.

Thanks for the good wishes. I am thrilled.

As per earlier post, the first pictures of the G3, coupled with the 20mm f:1.7:

Especially the later one impresses me with no CA or glare, that I can find.

And some gratious gearporn shots of the combo. The lens carries the tiny Etsumi lens hood/shade, a most marvelous little thing:

It is rather rudimentary, but I think it is a little gem for the price paid.

Congrats on the G3, Jens! It looks like a seriously cool - AND usable - tool :)
I'm curious about one thing - the tiny Etsumi lens hood-shade - how does it work (in both theory and practice)? And - would you mind posting another photo of the lens with the Etsumi shade on but the lens cap off?

Just picked up a 28mm F2.8 z mount. Small, light and nice colors. Someone said they are like the colors from the D700. Getting some shots today with it.

The 28mm is a pretty nice lens to just leave on the camera.

Much obliged, @MiguelATF

I have some photos up of it here, with the 15mm: Etsumi lens hood but let me know if you want it pictured on any of the other lenses it fits (20mm, which it is made for or the 14mm) I like it quite a lot, and will probably try to see how it fares on the PL25 as well, as to vignetting and such.

Being that it is for a 20, I cant see that it should cause troubles for the 25, and it doesnt on the 15 or 14mm either. I cant see that I have any dislikes for it, as per now, with the caveat that I haven't really pushed it performance-wise. It is also treaded and fits 37mm filters, but that is unchartered territory, other than trying on a UV to see if it was possible. I will, when it comes back in stock in black, pick up a couple of more of them for a "permanent" fit.

A Panasonic G9, from a forum member here.

I had been a Panasonic shooter for years: FZ50, G5, G6, GF7, GX85, G85. When I wanted to upgrade to a 20MP sensor I rented a G9 and an E-M1 II to compare them. The Olympus felt better in my hand and, at the time, was less expensive. No doubt the E-M1 II is the best camera I have ever owned, it became my primary shooter. The G85 calls to me though and I still use it some. Now the price of the G9 in the used marked has dropped and I have to give it another try. The viewfinder is just incredible and it has that Panasonic feel that I have used for years. Time will tell if the size is troublesome for me. I know that we have had several members go the other way moving from G9 to E-M1 (I'm looking at you @Darmok N Jalad ). If nothing else the comparison will give me motivation to get out and shoot.

Going to have fun with this one. It's a Fujinon 9 - 108mm f1.7, a 1980's parfocal broadcast lens for the Sony 2/3" mount.
It came with a bunch of servos that I have no idea how to operate/power, so moved those aside.

Has a built-in doubler for that extra reach too(teleconverter). Without doubler the image does not cover the m43 sensor fully.
With the doubler on, it acts as a 18 -> 216mm lens on m43, without any vignette. So that's 36mm -> 432mm - 35eq, all with a constant aperture.
Has a macro tab, to allow focus < 0.95m.
The adaptor is 3d printed till I get my proper chinesium one from aliexpress.

At f1.7 images are soft and glowy, but its actually kinda nice (I've heard it's due to how the old sensors had split rgb ccd sensors at different distances).

I can't wait to walk around with this thing haha.
