GAS GEAR: Please Share your Latest Disposals Big and Small

Hey Daniel, you're becoming a real professional dealer. Good luck!
Haha, might need it. Actually when I think about it began with the E-M5 mk III. This is the full M43 story:

  1. E-M5 mk I. I felt happy with this after having the E-3 a good while.
  2. GM1. Very nice to have a smaller body. Still have it.
  3. GX80. This I were I grew fond of Panasonics way of doing it.
  4. G80. And here was peak really. I really liked this. Sold the E-M5 and the GX80.
  5. Here came a break. Life came in between. I shot mostly with new good cellphone.
  6. E-M5 mk III. So I did comeback here and went back to roots with the E- M5 which I thought was the best after all. Everything was fine a good while until I found out that with the Auto ISO in that linked thread above.
  7. GX9. So I thought Panasonic was the way for me. Sold the G80 and E-M5 and bought this. Just to find out that it does NOT work the same way as the G80 did. Actually not even the G9 does, I tried it at a store. And not the GM1 either which I still have. That was MOST frustrating. Sold the EM-5 and looked outside the box...
  8. Nikon Z50. This is what I landed at. It works like I want and the lenses existing, and at that time, in the lens road map, felt good.
  9. G9. Having used this for a while I still have many lenses for M43. Like PL100-400 which required a better body than GX9. So I bought the G9 for that. Still thinking of using both systems.
And now we are in present time. Starting to like Nikon Z so much that I think of selling of M43. Starting with the G9. Before I make the final decision I will wait until I see what the new G9 mk II is.

So... what a circus eh?! But when things don't go as planned... 😟 anyway. I will not repeat the mistake.

I tend to keep everything I acquire these days, but now I've...
  • sold my Fuji XF90mm f/2
  • tried and failed to sell my Voigtländer VM 21mm f/3.5
  • decided to send back my newest acquisition, the Nikon Z fc
The 90mm Fuji I last used about a year ago, and on two occasions the previous year. It's a stellar lens and I've tried to hang on to it, but in my view it's also so big that I never actually use it. Time to let it finally go.

The 21 is another great lens, and not in the least bit big, but I seem to have developed a real dislike for the wider angles after using it exclusively for this February's Single-in challenge. So I offered it to an unnamed buyer and seller of used gear, and grudgingly accepted the small sum they offered. However, they apparently mistook the lens for some other model, and lowered their offer accordingly after receiving my shipment. I said no, too low, and they sent it back.

And the Z fc? All in all, it's a nice body, but I came to realise that the lenses I want simply don't exist for Z mount. I'll need to push my GAS into a different direction. Maybe even check my own shelves. ;)

I sold my meager collection of mu-4/3 gear and used the funds to purchase a mint condition Fuji X-T3 + XF 35mm f2. The E-M1 Mk III and 12-45 f4 were a nice combination, and I'll probably end up missing the 12-45, but I sort of have a guilt complex about owning any more than one system camera at a time. I wanted to grab an X-T3 now that prices have dropped to a reasonable level.

X-T3 is the only camera I have bought close to launch and I am only mildly tempted by the X-T5 even after all this time. Enjoy!

Congratulations. The X-T3 is the best camera I have had in 70 years!

Agree. I sold my GX9 also, now I only have one M43 body left, also for sale :)

The Fujifilm XF 60mm f/2.4 macro. A beautiful lens. Some of the most beautiful out-of-focus backgrounds of any lens, ever. Very sharp, and a usefully short focus distance. And a very small lens, too. One could argue that the autofocus is not the fastest, but I always found it adequate, especially with the focus limiter of later bodies. However, 60mm is just not a focal length I find useful. Still, it stayed in my quiver mostly for scanning negatives. But then it didn't fit the Valoi Easy35, so I replaced it with the Laowa 65.

The Fujifilm XF 14mm f/2.8. Another nicely compact lens, superbly sharp all across the frame, and completely optically corrected, too, so none of the stretched corners of modern lenses. But while I had fun with this lens, it was one-too-many for putting into my usual travel kit, and the 16-80 could fulfill the same purpose well enough in most cases. So it usually stayed home, and I ultimately sold it.

Not for lack of love, but with the addition of the M10-P to the stable, I just don’t see using my Pen F any longer. She’s a beauty, but it was the right time to sell apparently. It sold for $215 more than I paid for it new 4-5 years ago. I can’t pick stocks, but I’ve been lucky with most cameras. This one however was a jackpot I’d say. I’ll probably miss it, but then I’ll pick up my Q or M10-P, and it’ll pass.

Last week: 2 G9's, 12-35/35-100 v1, Rok 7.5 FE, Oly 9-18. Had not used any of these lenses in a year. G9's leaving to make my cameras Gh6/G9II/Gx85. Lenses left (my gotos) Gh6/G9II: PL8-18, PL12-60, PL100-400, and Oly 60mm. Gx85: Pany 14mm+ GWC1 and 35-100 f4-5.6mm, Oly 75-300II. Pretty much done for the future. Used the G9's for 6 years, the Gx85 around the same time. If I was doing any work the 12-35/35-100 would have stayed.

Sounds like a worthy move to me. The X-T3 is, simply, not just one of the best cameras I have ever used - but (and I know this is subjective) one of the most enjoyable ones to pick up and use. Part of which is due to the amazing (in my opinion) EVF, and part due to the amazing (also my opinion) ways Fuji has of rendering colors. The XF35mm ranks up there as one of my two or three favorite lenses ever... and the fact that it is weather-sealed makes the entire camera + lens package even more fun to pick up, no matter whether it's rain or shine or crazy storm. Fujis, the good ones (of which the X-T3 definitely is) have a tendency to grow on a person, the more you use them... the more you come to appreciate a thousand tiny little details.
Short version of the above: Congrats!!!

The Fuji X-Pro2, a truly lovely camera. Perhaps Fuji's most iconic shape of any body, a chunky body with a satisfying heft. Weirdly comfortable to hold despite the boxy shape. And that engaging optical window finder, which is still the most physical and direct viewfinder experience I've ever had. And yet, I noticed myself grabbing the X-T3 instead more and more. As great as the OVF feels, it made me second-guess (and miss) focus too often. And that fixed screen remains a downside, as is the lack of USB charging, Bluetooth, and proper EVF.

Weirdly, the thing I'll miss most is the OVF for long tele use. It's tremendously useful or tracking birds in flight, by seeing beyond the frame. For normal photography, this feels nice as well, but hasn't provided me with any tangible advantages.

I enjoyed my time with the X-Pro2, I'm even thankful for it. But I have outgrown it, somehow.

Also, the Fuji XF 1.4X TC, Fuji's smaller teleconverter. I've personally compared both tele converters with cropping, on my 70-300. I found them both better than cropping, by the tiniest of margins. On the other hand, they are tedious to put on, and diminish focusing speed and brightness a lot. So I sold first the 2x, and now the 1.4x as well.

Over the last few months, I have sold almost half my gear. This feels strange. I just feel like I don't need as much stuff any longer. I wonder what that means.

Now I am curious to see if Sigma is going to make an ultra compact 50-135mm f 2.8 for APS-C size coverage or if they will use the upcoming 70-200mm-ish f 2.8 with FF coverage that everyone has been waiting for for almost a decade :p (I'm hoping for both, for the community)

Well...that was relatively quick, it only stayed with me for two weeks and for most of that time, I liked many aspects of it. But my recently acquired manual-focus (and Macro-focusing too!) Vivitar 28mm f/2.8 lens, that I acquired to use with my K-S1, is now on its way to a new home with a fellow Pentaxian. But I have to say, not only did it handle extremely well, it also looked quite cool on my Pentax--

So what prompted me to part with it? An irrational search for w-i-d-t-h... specifically a slightly W-I-D-E-R angle. I like the FOV of a 28mm in this APS-C format... but I have a hankering for a slightly wider lens. One of my favorite-ever lenses on previous Pentax DSLR's was the DA21. But just to be adventurous, I'm hoping to replace this one with another ancient manual-focus (and macro-focusing) old-school Vivitar, a 24mm. It should be JUST that much wider to satisfy my wide-angle itch. We'll see... (More to Come, Stay-Tuned...)

Hey, Miguel, don't EVER try out the f/4 8-25 Olympus.
It does rather spoil one, and that's coming from my FTs f/4 7-14 ...
