Billingham is packed to go. A 24-hour-trip type of excursion to Helsinki to see how the spring and the sea is doing down there. It holds Leica, 35/2, 50/1.5, a change of underthings, a snack (I don't suppose that's enough for 24 hours?:(). Not pictured: water bottle, travel diary, toothbrush.

I have a lot of new toys in my Nikon system so I definitely considered the idea of taking the bigger bag and the Df with me also. Ultimately I planned this trip too late (basically just some hours before execution) so I don't have "time" to pack the other bag. I know what's in my Hadley Pro. Besides, Leica hasn't seen much airtime the last couple of weeks so I shall keep it simple. I do think some of the seascapes I'm going to see would benefit from a 135mm...

Helsinki witnesses currently a period of lockdown to my understanding, so restaurants and cafés are on "takout" basis only. Definitely not ideal because a weary street traveler wants to rest his legs every once in a while. We'll have to see what is what.

I have a pair of train tickets that expire today so that's why I decided to do a last-minute trip. The bummer of the trip so far is that I thought the tickets expired tomorrow! So that's why I booked AirBnB for the night after I so wanted to keep the trip "low-budget" and return to home after sunset. I battled much about booking accommondation as I have a weird obsession to book nights now, and spend money out of town. I decided I go for a night out but only today I discovered my tickets are no good tomorrow so I just lost a fare's worth. :( I shall remember to mark the dates properly in my calendar from now on.

FujiFiilm X100v in stealth black with Nisi UV filter (for dust & weather resistance) and the anything-but-stealthy, gorgeous DeadCameras Allfit strap.View attachment 254039
Nice setup. For the X100 series, I’d be hard pressed to decide between the Nisi and the Squarehood offering. The Nisi wins for an all in one solution that keeps the camera profile as small as possible, so I’d probably lean that way as well.

Spent 2 weeks rebuilding this Midg No.3.

Now fully restored to working condition

Though I still need to touch up some black paint, nail down bits of the trim and source a bit of rubber tubing for the pneumatic shutter release at this point.

Was it all worth the trouble? Probably not.

I do intend to feed it some J.Lane photographic plates soon though.

With a Leica in hand one tends to invent ways to afford one 😎
That might very well be true, I never dared :). I cured myself of the last bit of GAS for a Leica M by critically inspecting dpreview's sample raw files from an M10R. A lot of them were not critically sharp and I'm sure I'd be frustrated as hell by such things. Your mileage has varied obviously :).

That's a dangerous road IMHO, judging critical sharpness on pixel level. I wish you well if you need that stuff all the time.
But for the sake of addressing people who don't need the pixels but think they do, I just have to insert my concern here: that it's not a sound basis to go forward. Do our requirements of a "good photo" get higher and higher every time a new megapixel count is reached? I think this line of thinking serves the camera manufacturers and they are the ones who drive this trend forward.
I don't mean to disparage you for being a Sony user but I think Sony in particular has been in a good place to promote this new line of thinking: "your photos are pure garbage if your focus isn't on the eye 100%" simply because they have the best AF and this way can lead the sales. They aced the technology and now they milk the masses for it, good for them. Not that good for photography trends, IMO.

I am not entirely cured of pixel peeping myself, but I am getting well.

Oh, I agree, non-optimal sharpness hardly ever impacts an otherwise good picture. And I have shown enough pictures to others that weren't technically perfect in some way or another, and no one ever cared. But if I want to get it perfectly sharp, I want to be able to do that. Yeah, I know, use Live View like Leica themselves say, but that would defeat the Leica M's purpose for me. Oh well, bygones as far as I'm concerned, I'm quite happy with the Sony FF cameras now that more and more compact lenses are offered. For me the biggest lure of Leica M are the beautiful, small and fast lenses.

Edit: an example, where the A7R2 refused to focus on the lady in time :).
