Nice shot, Trankster. Really nice cameras, too.
For several years, my old Rollei 35 was my only camera - as well as my take-everywhere camera. It has been to a lot of places with me, and documented many moments and people and places in the different (and always changing) seasons of my existence.
I also had not one but two Ricoh GR's, I couldn't quite bond with the initial one (the 1st generation of the APS-C Ricoh GR's), but years later I acquired a GRii and probably wound up taking some of my favorite pictures ever with it. A truly fantastic camera.
I can't quite tell which (generation of) GR yours is... but it's one fine looking bit of gear.

And btw welcome to Camaraderie. An interesting place for both photographs and communication. Looking forwards to seeing more of your images!

Thanks Miguel. My Ricoh is the GRIIIx. I have had the GRIIIx a couple of years and am often impressed with the image quality and just plain fun shooting with this camera. I will post more photos in time. In the last year I have become interested in film photography especially with vintage rangefinder cameras. I have several now including an Olympus Pen FT, Olympus Trip 35 and Rollei 35, but it It does take me a while to use a roll of film when not traveling.

I've often thought of how much the GRIIIx is a modern day Rollei 35... It parallels it in so many ways, but it is also the uniqueness. The Rollei wasn't absolutely unique on the market (40mm or close thereabouts has been a common focal range in the days of compact scale- and rangefinder-focus compacts), but the way it was packaged absolutely was. And now, the GRIIIx is the most daring concept one could get away with in the compact field. I mean, a 40mm equivalent just doesn't check enough boxes for versatility... except that we know that it actually does.

Hmmm, Andrew.

I owned a 40mm Cassaron lens for my Praktica, way back. Almost never used it. I always seemed to prefer either the 50 or 28 mm FLs, and short telephotos (around 100mm).

These days, I prefer high quality zooms for most things.

I own several cameras with 40mm lenses- one of the most popular focal lengths on Rangefinder cameras.

The first F1.4 lens made was the Carl Zeiss Jena 4cm F1.4 Biotar from 1927. I gave mine to Chris at Skyllaney, he converted it to RF Coupled M-Mount. Some lucky person has a unique lens, 300 made originally. The 40/2 Summicron on the CL, 40/1.8 on the Minolta AL-E, 40/1.7 on the Minolta Hi-Matic 7-II, and 40/1.7 of the Canonet. All Biotar formula lenses, just not as fast as the one from 1927.

I put together a nice kit in 2012 for seriouscompacts. Asked maybe $100 for this. I picked up a several cameras and lenses from a retired newspaper photographer, and passed them on at a good price. I have a kit for myself, with the FC-1 and 40/1.8. I also kept the 28/1.8 and picked up a 50/1.4. The Konica 50/1.7 is the one to get for Sharp. I converted mine to RF coupled M-Mount.

A bit bored yesterday, so thinking about dipping into the collection for some fun, and I am not sure if I ever actually shot with these two.

The Lumix G5 and G6, decided that they are the flavour of the week (or so).

The only sound thing to do was to match them up with the accompanying Vario-X lenses, the only two cameras Lumix released with toggle switches onboard the cameras, matching the Power Zooms (14-42 and 45-175mm) to a "T" and somewhat of a Lumix sidetrack, if I ever saw one. Both cameras ride in an very old Lowepro bag, with room to spare, and accompanied with the PL 9mm that also needs a bit of airing.

Shooting like its 2012/13, yeah baby!
