I have been experimenting with these two and while I'm not proficient in either I have taken CC off my computer for a month. Had a complete breakdown with CC today. I think I will like the work flow on C1 better but it all remains to be seen. I'm using the free express version at the moment but I think I will click with it better. Here's to going Cold Turkey. First time in 10 years there has been no Adobe photo products at my disposal. The tough love way to learn lol.

I still have 5.7 on my MacBook but haven't used it for about two months. Purchased Luminar and now have the free C1. I'm getting faster with C1 but still nowhere near LR speed but that's OK by me. I'm thinking about Affinity to replace my aging version of CS6.

    Adobe free.

Sue as I understand it there are two brand specific Express versions available, one works only with Sony, the other with Fuji cameras. I have both.

The express model is all I need for most situations. I downloaded a free sample Styles, (presets) pack and there are several different styles included in the original Express download.
Downside : No Nik Collection support, No Layers that I have found so far. No HDR or Pano stitching either that I've found .
Upside is I like the look i get from my flies and have already developed a supper fast workflow that suits most of my needs. I will find out whats included in the full version before I spend money .

I have been working with the C1(pro version) and Affinity Photo for several months now. And I have found it to be perfect for all of my needs. It took me a little bit of time to work out either where different things were located, or what the Affinity name for tools is. Like content aware is called the in painting brush. It is really nice that Frequency Separation is an automatic process listed under filters.

Tim, C1 will work with Nik. Or at least it did when I last had Nik. To use one of the Nik plugins, right click on the image you're working on. In the popup menu look for edit in. Highlight that, then another pop up menu appears with a list of programs you can edit in. CLick on Silver Efx, or whichever program you wish to edit in. This also works for Affinity Photo. It will then give the options of sending the image as a PSD, Tiff, or JPG. Once finished in the other program, save, and the edited photo will return to C1.

Layers, and several other tools are only available in C1 pro. If you do not want to pay for the pro version, Affinity Photo is only $50 and works in layers. Affinity is good replacement for Photoshop.

Just note that Nik will only open jpg or tiff, not psd (or RAW/dng).

Yeah, when I took CC of my laptop it took Nik with it. (Old Version) it didn't reload as a plugin so it will have to operate as a standalone that I can send images to. I have it reloaded but think i will explore the different styles in C1 first. This program is blindingly fast with my new SSD. I can see there are certain situations that would require Photoshop but i rarely go there, so right now, I'm good.

When I got heavily into C1, I stopped using Nik. I mainly used silver efx and color efx. But I found that I could get the same, then better results in C1. I do have C1 Pro, so there are more tools available to me than C1 express. And that does make a difference.

I'm hoping at some point Nik support comes to LRCC on ChromeOS. I'm really pleased with the straightforward experience I'm getting on a lightweight operating system. If not, I may just end up getting a cheap fast box with a lot of RAM and JBOD and reloading LR legacy with Nik on it. I'm down already to a mostly JPG workflow, so it's just a matter of getting over the last couple of hurdles with my preferred workflow tools.

I,m there also Covey 22 although I'm not opposed to shooting RAW. I find for my style of shooting Fuji has baked in a pretty good recipe. As I tire of looking for new programs to massage my files, I have found the best medicine is to be Dead on with my Exposure. If I can achieve that I can push the auto button on most any program and nothing moves. I then feel free to experiment knowing I have the proper exposure to start. That to me is a real confidence booster. I am getting very good, maybe slower but very good.

Well I am really twisted now because Lightroom appears to have closed the gap, plus I have LR until June when it renews. The way it reads is they are very close. I shall wait and see. I have reloaded CC and will do some side by side. My problem with CC has been Photoshop not loading my plugins.

LR probably closed the gap with C1 11.

Well another surprise, While in the free Fuji version of Capture 1 I skimmed down the file list and where it said Open With I clicked and Photoshop CC appeared I reworked 3 pics and exported them with no issues. Will have some new stuff tomorrow and will try this as a workflow. This worked quickly and seamlessly. to say that I was surprised these two would get along would be an understatement but I'm happy. Made adjustments in both and exported from CC.
