these kits have trickled in and out, sometimes showing as out of stock. But, right now, the K-70 and 18-55mm kit is only $399! That's a steal for a 24mp, 14-bit RAW APS-C DSLR with all of the great Pentax features. Buy it, so I don't buy one as a backup!

I didn't know much about that camera but, having been drawn in by the no AA Filter quote, I saw the other features and am thinking that's a super deal/ camera. Not going to do it though as there will inevitably be the requirement of at least 4 DA/ Ltd primes (you know the ones). Too much of a slippery slope for me.

Are the 30/50/70 and k-01 plagued by the same sticker shutter issue that used to crop up on these models or was it resolved later in the production runs? I still have a k-01 with a problem shutter so I'm a little jaded by the entry-level experience from that era of manufacturing.

I wonder if that guy from the Pentax forums can convert these to monochrome. He charges roughly $1000. That would put this deal, converted, cheaper than a k3mono.

These can suffer from faulty aperture solenoids? IIRC it affects all (most?) Kxx (double digit) models.

Answering my own question after searching for a bit.

They do if you get a K70 manufactured before Jan 2021. Apparently Pentax changed the solenoid on K70s manufactured after that date. The only way to get that info is to take a picture and upload to the site mentioned in that forum post.

Beat me to it. Pentax Forums seems to be more or less in agreement that late manufacture K-70s don't have the issue.

Just saw this, and they must be sold out. I've never owned a Pentax DSLR, but I shot Pentax film SLRs for many years and have always wanted to try one. This would be tempting. But like Tim I'm well aware of where this would end up for me.

Anyway, I've told myself that 2025 is going to be my year to not buy any cameras. Six weeks in, so far so good.
