thanks for such a thoughtful reply ray. yes, i do feel very lucky that we're in such an exciting time of wonderful high quality choice for our hobby, and that we can take at least some advantage of it. i'm starting to see lots of buzz and, finally!, some really nice results from the A7/r with mf glass. truth is, being a longtime legacy glass user, i'm finding that focusing aids arent keeping up with my, lets say, 'maturing' vision, and coupled with the 4 months of pretty cold weather in my mountain zone, the mf experience is losing a little steam with me.
add to that my recently-purchased-totally-on-a-whim epl5 surprisingly (to me) turns out some af IQ with the 45/1.8 that imo keeps up with the big boy fuji x line, and, along with my x100, i'm pretty satisfied--except that the images ive seen from the rx1 really set my head aflame!
now, tbh, at the 'intro' price of $2800 or whatever, plus mandatory, for me, $400 evf, this was as much a nonstarter for me as an m9. but last week i managed to score an entire kit-cam, evf, RRS grip, batteries and charger--for about the price of an a7, so i couldnt resist. however, at the end of the day its about results. in order for me to keep this rig and be happy, i'm gonna need to see a notieceable IQ improvement from my x100 at normal iso and a 2 stop improvement at high iso--and even though the x is a few years old, imo this will be no easy feat.
but, like you said, if it does offer that kind of performance, itd be fun to be able to share excitement, discussion, tips etc!
