I didn't really see any topics going over all the lens choices available for this module.

Currently I'm using a GRDIII and a Nikon DSLR. I'm contemplating dumping the DSLR and moving to the GXR, but even with the open M format the lenses I really want doesn't seem to be available.

I looking for a 35mm eq. lens to use and from what I have seen there is the Voigtlander 25f4 and 21f4(€400) and the Zeiss25f2.8(€1000) they are either to slow or to expensive for me to switch from my SLR

Are there any cheaper 24mm f1.4-2.8 used/new available out there that will give me a 35mmfov.

GXR
voigtlander 15
A12 28mm
a(24mm f1.4)
And built in viewfinder would make me a very happy photographer.

I get the interest in the M module but I would start with the A12 28 & 50. I did in fact. For me, I like the AF and snap too much to let it go.

If you go the M module, the wider lenses present $$$ issues for sure.
eBay is a good source but everyone is going crazy there.

So,

You can use your GXR and M module with pretty well any M mount lens (see * below). That means from any manufacturer over the years, from Leica to Zeiss, via Cosina (Voigtlander), Konica, Rollei, etc. You can also use any Barnack (LTM) mount lens with an M adaptor. In addition you can use most R lenses with a suitable adaptor. I have converted three of my R mount lenses to Nikon with a Leitax adaptor. I use them, and any other Nikon-mount lens on my M Module by means of a Novoflex adaptor.

* The M Module comes with a clever little plastic device, a bit like a champagne cork cage. If your lens fits in this and the rear elements do not foul, it is safe to put on the M Module.

Visit my Flickr stream for examples of lenses mounted on the Module.

Lightmancer-

So my best(and cheapest:D) solution is probably using my 24mm2.8D Nikon with the Nikon-to-M Novaflex adapter. How will metering function with this setup.

Booka, the nearest equivalent for me is the 28mm Elmarit with the Leitax mount. It's stop-down metering, I'm afraid, although I'd say that given the 1/4000 top shutter speed I rarely bother to do so.

Hope that helps.

Bill

Just received a new GXR with A12 mount today, total price for the two with postage £456, which I thought was a very good deal.
Does anyone know which of these lenses are considered better than the others. I'm not worried about which focal length, I would be happy to work with any of them and not too bothered about the maximum aperture either, just quality of the lens and how well it would match the A12 sensor

Thanks

Congrats on your purchase! The GXR M mount performs particularly well with the 35mm 2.5, a lens I actually favour over the much lauded "bokeh king" v4 Summicron. On the GXR it becomes a well-balanced "50mm". You'll find examples on my Flickr stream using this lens.

Now, having said that, BE CAREFUL with the 15 and 21... Both protrude far into the body. I cannot recall exactly, but I vaguely recall that the 15 is unusable... Use the gauge you (hopefully) got in the box with the adaptor to be sure. If in doubt DON'T mount a lens that may damage your sensor!

Thanks for the prompt advice Bill.

I haven't used a 50mm equivalent since the end of my OM4 days, about 20 years ago, so that would be interesting. (the OM4 had died electronically for the second time so I gave up on it)

I'll make sure to check the 15 or 21 for compatibility first if I decide to go that way.

Fate took charge and when I walked into a Leica specialist shop in London they had just taken a Voigtländer 35mm f/1.4
M-Mount NOKTON Classic part exchange and offered it to me with the hood that came with it for £299. That was it, sold! The they said David Bailey had bought one recently which made me laugh.

Anyways here are a couple or three images I've taken in the last couple of days.
