The Royal Navy finally has a proper flat-top to play with once more. I nipped down to Portsmouth Royal Naval Dockyard at the weekend for a quick peek. It's not possible to get too close, but here are a few shots. Portsmouth is a historic dockyard which also contains the remains of the Mary Rose and of course HMS Victory as well as the remarkable HMS Warrior - well worth a visit.
I used my X-Pro2 and the 18-135mm and 14mm lenses; an ideal combination for an outing such as this.
HMS Queen Elizabeth. Note the blue ensign flying at her stern; this means that she is under control of the Admiralty but is not in active service - she has not been fully handed over yet.
The distinctive twin islands.
Island #2 - used for flight ops.
Island #1 - used for navigation.
The Mary Rose museum
A stern look from HMS Victory
Ancient and modern. Steel walls and wooden, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Victory.
Victory and Queen Elizabeth
And finally, a bit of visual humour from Gunwharf Quays. I'm sure I can't be the first to spot this...
...and a bit of mono.
