How's weather at your place?

Hot yesterday, hot today, hot tomorrow.

I don't mind daytime heat, but it's no fun at night when you can't sleep.

today 22° C and absolutely dry
but from now on ever in fear of an impending catastrophe
here is my protection against a rising flood.
this contraption can be set up in no time to keep water out of the basement - the height reaches 30cm above ground level,
which should be enough as in complete flat surroundings no torrent is to be expected

A good T-storm hammering down outside right now. It arrived just as my dog and I arrived back at our house; good thing I thought to walk him early. The temps have been a lot milder the first few days of August, more like Spring, actually. Nice to get out and walk or bike ride without being drenched by sweat in the first 5 minutes.

For the past few weeks in Southern Oregon, we have been getting vast - and generally unhealthy - amounts of smoke pollution from the massive wildfires that are currently burning across much of Oregon and the neighboring state of California. The actual visible pollution varies from day to day and sometimes from hour to hour, depending on how and whether the local winds are blowing the peripheral smoke from the fires towards us or away from us. This evening, for a few hours before sunset, it mostly cleared up - enough for a nice walk up the rural road next to my house. But in the distance, on the horizon, a heavy pall of the wildfire smoke was visible---

And surprisingly enough, looking at it... it was quite beautiful, in a way.

Fortunately I had a decent camera with me. This is what I saw - or, rather, this is what the Zeiss lens on my RX10M4 'saw'---

The remnants of hurricane Ida have begun to skim our part of the country. We've had intermittent t-storms and at times heavy rain the past couple of days. The temperature has dropped noticeably, and we're supposed to see the heaviest rain today and tomorrow. After that, we're back to the heat and high humidity that is usual for this time of year.

Wet for days, I'm about to grow webbed feet. More autumn than summer.
But weather forecast promises sun for the rest of the week and up to 25°C.

Much sympathy about the wildfires… we are coming up to that season soon, not looking forward too it. Have to get a different kind of mask to cope with the smoke. The photo is lovely, that haze is a gorgeous colour.

@rayvonn must be feeling even worse, I think Sydney is now on about 9 weeks of it, with no end in sight.
Not feeling worse Sue as I somehow managed to make it out and am now in London. The attitude and rules here (and pretty much most places in the world) differ greatly in that there's no lockdowns as, unlike Australia, all the vaccines have been available on tap and on every high street. I see Gladys' press conferences and wince as this affects my friends and family in Australia. I'm just grateful for your sake that the Hunter community where you are very supportive of one another during these stressful times.

Beautiful spring day coming up here, 21°C.

Also, after 5 months of enquiries, I get my first COVID-19 vaccination today (I have peculiar reactions to most medications ... ). Both my allergist and rheumatologist/immunologist recommend the Astra Zeneca vaccine, with a number of precautions for my particular situation.

They also stated that it is a 'better' vaccine than others, based on their expert knowledge and experience. Since both are very experienced and careful specialists, I have considerable confidence in their opinions and advice.

I'm hoping that it goes well for me.
