Leica Interesting Video: Sold all his gear to switch to Leica

I take a number of (prescribed) medications that should have that effect, and usually do. However, they don't affect me that way?? Weird biochemistry and neurochemistry ...

I'm still very much self-aware when I drink. When I'm drinking with other people, I can keep up with them more or less, but I know when I've had enough and I know when to stop, I know to rehydrate by drinking copious amounts of water or tea before I go to bed.

I know people who lose their bearings when they drink. It dhanges them, they lose their self-awareness and self control.

Depends on the model and condition, most are worth repairing. I was given a pair, both needed some light work.

If you want a good rangefinder for film, the Canon P is an excellent choice. These go in the $200 range with a lens.

Retirement- I've been asked to setup an internship program for computer engineering. I've worked with students as interns for 25 years.
I've been looking at Canon P's again as a way to scratch the film itch. The ones I've been looking at that are in fully functional condition range from $200 with a Canon 50/1.8 lens to $350 with a 50/1.4 lens. Very nice cameras and very tempting to me.

It's the abuse of alcohol and/or drugs which leads to erratic and irresponsible behavior. I have been on the Oxy's for full shoulder replacements but understand what "as directed" means. The PA gave me a bottle of 90 for the second replacement. They trusted me, with reason. My mantra is, "I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, gamble, stay out late or run after skirt. Most Mormons lead faster lives than I do." And I have lost a few friends who did not understand what "as directed" meant or that their behavior was dangerous and self-destructive.

You know my tag line, "Not My Circus, Not My Monkeys."

As my cardiologist said to the discharge sister: "Don't bother explaining John's medications to him. He probably knows more about them, and why he's taking them, than you do."

My doctors instruct hospital nursing staff that I am to self-medicate for the same reason.
I was nearly killed by a nurse giving me two potassium tablets. Probably meant for the patient in the room next to me. Resulted in two perforated ulcers. I very nearly bled to death - around 1-2 hours from it, according to my specialist.
I do not trust nurses with my complex medications!

I hope you sued.

I hope you sued.
Nope. Zero proof.

However, the gastroenterologist who fixed the ulcers up investigated. Nothing on my chart. He also agreed that potassium tablets given to a non-eating, vomiting patient would present exactly as he saw it. Only conclusion that fits the facts was that I was given someone else's tablets.

I was a bit out of it, as just recovering from open heart surgery, but had been taking potassium tablets for some years before, so recognised them, in retrospect.

The hospital attempted to charge me a re-admission fee. I explained why I wasn't going to pay that, and asked would they like to speak to my commercial litigation QC? They decided not to charge me that fee ...

I've walked into antique stores and picked up a Leica IIIa with Summar for $15, Leica III Black-Paint with Elmar for $15, and a Nikon M with 5cm F1.4 for $30.
Kind of like the lottery, but you invest time and knowledge.

These may seem remarkable but I have lots of the same type of "luck". It's not really 100% luck, although luck is a part of it. I love flea markets, yard sales, street sales, and I have a laser eye and encyclopedic memory. I can't even count the times I have found rare and valuable gear for a pittance. I have gone through tables and sales that have been practically picked clean by "professional" buyers and have found stuff they overlooked, probably due to lack of knowledge.

Recently, I bought a box of "beat up" lenses that were under a flea market table. $50 out the door. The box contained lenses that included several 1930's Nikkor lenses for the Hansa Canon. They were just dirty, cleaned up near mint. Crazy rare. What I think I missed was the Hansa body, possibly with Japanese Naval markings. I'm not complaining.
