Infrared Gear IR at the Beach

I received a R-72 near infrared filter earlier this year as a gift, so I took it along with me to the beach on a recent trip. I used it on my Leica M8.2 with a Zeiss 50mm C Sonnar ZM lens.

This Zeiss lens has a red line for infrared focusing like lenses did in the “old days.” My particular Sonnar is rangefinder focus optimized for f/2.8. I used f/4 or smaller apertures for most of the shots.

The DNG files are mostly reddish. I converted them to black and white and added a little contrast. This technique is extremely simple and produces some eye catching results. Sometimes I like my photos to present more questions than answers. I think some of these IR shots do that.
