The horseshoe vortex is extremely rare. I have to credit akulya, who once said, in response to a thread, "My photophilosophy is, take the camera pretty much everywhere, and see what happens." I adopted that philosophy and was in the right place at the right time with a camera, pulling out of a bank parking lot, with no one beeping the horn behind me, so I could get the shot through the windshield.
