Leica Jupiter-3+, Nikkor-SC 5cm F1.4, Canon 50/1.5 Visit Udvar Hazy

Brian

Product of the Fifties
A non-scientific comparison, the museum does not allow the use of Tripods. So I bring three lenses and makes several rounds through the museum, try to take from similar angles.

Jupiter-3+, wide-open.

All with UV filters. The J-3+ uses 40.5mm, Nikkor uses 43mm, Canon uses 40mm.

This particular Canon is shimmed to be best wide-open. Originally it was optimized for F2.8.

I know how you feel- Mine was delivered after the Blizzard of 2016.

I still ran out to shoot my Fence Post. I don't trust a lens until I use it to shoot the fence post...

The next set of comparisons will be with the 1943 Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm F1.5 Sonnar "T" and Nikkor 5cm F1.5.

Very interesting Brian. What immediately stood out to me was the difference in coma among the three lenses. From your first photo, I did a quick screenshot in the same order you presented. Jupiter first, Nikkor second and Canon last. The Canon seems to have the least by a good margin. That's surprising.
