Samsung Just bought a Samsung NX10

Blooper7206

Regular
Location
Devizes, Wiltshire, England
Name
Keith Patrak
I was looking for a camera with a larger sensor than my Lumix FZ330 and initially I was looking at M/43 bodies, having had a few in the past but then I spotted this Samsung NX10 with a 18-55mm lens on E-Bay, it had a APS-C sensor and all for £129. So it came and I was astounded at how small and compact it was for a 2010 camera with a APS-C sensor. The lens was just as compact as my old Olympus M4/3 lenses, as was the camera body. Anyway, I took it out and took a few photos, these were shot as jpegs by accident as I usually only shoot RAW but I updated the firmware and unknown to me it reset all the settings back to their default. I will shoot some RAW photos in the future 🙂

Excellent find! Nice pictures too!

How is the responsiveness and operations of the camera? I was always curious about this system as well...but have not looked at it lately. Mkght be time to revisit! 🙂
The camera has a very good build quality and the standard 18-55mm lens is very sharp. Some people have complained about the shutter noise but I actually love it, for me it's one of those cameras that are so much fun to use and hopefully I can get some more lenses for it. I have ordered a Pentax K to NX adaptor as I have a few K mount lenses but I am not sure how easy it will be to manual focus. It's responsive enough for general photography, the focus in daylight is very good, I don't know about CAF because I don't ever really use that. I have not tried it in low light yet, I take a lot of photos of churches in the UK, so that we be a good test as some of the interiors can be very dark.

Well today I took the NX10 out again and shot in RAW as I normally would do they put them through Photolab 7 and converted them to jpegs. The church I went to today was a very unusual thatched wooden church and inside it was very dark, so a real test. Some of the shots were at the maximum 3200 iso and all handheld. I was actually quite pleased with the results, not forgetting that I only have the 18-55mm f3.5/5.6. I have just managed to bag a Samsung 16mm f2.4 pancake lens for £99, so I look forward to using that, it might help with these dark interiors 🙂

A great set, and a nice camera, I was looking at one of these myself a while ago , but I ended up with a Lumix G2 , which I'm happy with, as I was made an offer I couldn't refuse , but liked the look of the Samsung, maybe next time 😊

still curious what the story was behind this line of camera's. A short while later they introduced the Samsung NX11. And then after some time all of a sudden Samsung quit. Despite their camera's having excellent reviews and seemingly a promising future.

No one bought them...the stigma of being a phone maker, android OS or similar operating systems on board...despite the glowing reviews and the raves about the image quality....the adoption just was too low to keep going.

I think Samsung thought they might be able to capture some of that Sony fire. However, Sony had a larger backing, adopted an existing camera as a base. With a market saturated with all kinds of cameras, the decline of the camera market incoming at the time all contributed to Samsung just abandoning.

Well I have only just discovered them and it's a shame because they are really well made and very innovative

your purchase got me looking again and I was able to find an NX20 and 18-55mm for $200!

Excellent shape, seller should be shipping it out to me here within the next few days. Would be cool to have it prior to my Christmas break ( I’m taking that whole week off this year for vacation).

looking forward to this new system! If it is as good as I’ve read and as your samples have shown, I might even see about getting the 50-200mm zoom to make a full kit out of it! 😁

Thanks for giving me a reason to part with my money! 😎

That's great. I have a 16mm f2.4 on the way but I would also like a 50-200mm 🙂

Excellent images. Samsung NX cameras are just awesome, very easy to use. I can't wait to snag one and jump into that system as well. Fun fact is if you look around on the used market you can find most of the wide primes under 150 £ used and the 2 big primes around 200-250 £. For me the biggest sadness is that Samsung never came out with a lens longer than 200mm and they showed a prototype of Samsung NX 300mm f 2.8:

Here's the specs:
  • 300mm f/2.8 lens
  • OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation)
  • Magnesium alloy body
  • Weather sealed
  • Filter slot
  • 2m minimum focus distance
  • Custom focus range can be set
  • iFunction button
  • Super Sonic Actuator

If only Samsung would have held on just a while longer before quitting on the NX system. Oh well. I also think a Samsung NX camera is a good starter for kids to get into photography, especially the touch screen and Android versions, because they are very intuitive and similar to today's phones AND are quite affordable to replace if they break them.

Wow! that would have been am amazing lens though very expensive I would guess but you can see the quality of the build. Shame Samsung gave up on the market.
