Glad to see someone with an E-PL2 and out there using it for everyday stuff. Keep posting those shots, they are good to see. I must admit I was impressed with the comparison shots at dpreview - it certainly challenges my Pentax K-7. Ah, if only Olympus would do an WR PEN - not really interested in a top dollar slightly miniaturised E-5.

One of the things I just realized is that the screen looks as if it is really a 3:2 aspect screen. I typically shoot 4:3, so some screen resolution is lost if shooting in this format it appears.

Andy,

How does the screen compare to the E-PL1 in terms of using it to focus?

I have never had an E-PL1 so i don't know I'm afraid. However when focusing using AF the screen looks very good quality and you can easily distinguish between the sharp areas and the blurred backgrounds. When manual focus either with the std AF lens or old manual focus glass you can zoom in in 3 different steps using the magnify button and it's very good.

You won't loose resolution as such, the image is just cropped like all cameras that offer different aspect ratios.

Andy,

I misread your sig. I meant the E-P1.

And I meant display resolution on the LCD screen. I noticed on the specs, unlike the E-P1 screen that is 4:3, the screen on the E-PL2 is 3:2. So if I am shooting in 4:3, there will be black bars on the side of the display.

Yup! When shooting on the E-PL2 at 4:3 there are black bars on the side but they are not very wide. You can shoot in 3:2, 4:3, 16:9 & 6:6 which i think is 1:1 (Square).

Andy(please don't shoot me for so my ?'s, lol),

Have you tried any other lenses with the E-PL2. I'm curioius to know if other lenses focus faster than before.

Not tried any yet. I'm thinking of getting the 14mm f2.5 first but that won't be for a few weeks yet. I received a M42 adapter today but it was for Sony E fit so that's got to go back! Their cock up i may add. As soon as i get any more lenses i'll post my findings.

I just keep it on my desk so i can look at it!!

UPDATE:

I have finally received a M42 to M4/3 adapter so I can try my M42 legacy lenses. I have tried the 35mm Zeiss Flektogon, 50mm f/1.8 Pentagon and the 28mm f/2.8 Vivitar and they all perform very well especially the Flek and the Pentacon. The E-PL2 does a great job helping me see what I'm doing and there are 3 different zoom options to choose from, 7x, 10x & 14x which really helps. Images as you will see below are spot on. It's a shame the weather here is SO DULL!!! One can only dream of the sun! OK so here are a few images...

Fitted with Zeiss 35mm f/2.4 Flektogon.

That's a sweet looking camera Andy! Congrats! Let's see some photos now. :)

I agree with you that it's a bummer that Sony hasn't come out w/ more lenses for the NEX. There are allegedly three new lenses being released this year, but none of them appear to be pancakes. Sort of defeat the whole point of having small mirrorless cameras.

I took two photos with the EPL2 + 20/1.7 last weekend at the local camera shop with JPG, ISO200, face detect AF. I was SUPER SUPER impressed with the detail and sharpness. I don't have the photo with me now, but I'll post it later. The image quality in terms of sharpness and detail is SOOO much better than the EP2.

Andy-

If I buy an EPL2 (which I am tempted), then I REALLY ought to be called crazy or nuts! That would be something like 4 cameras in the span of 3-4 months! I guess I'm doing my part in "stimulating" the economy.
