Leica L-Mount cameras and lenses
string_1.jpg

This is my friend Derek teaching a small group of us how to fix centre serving to a bow string. Getting on a bit, but still shooting several times a week and of course, making his own bow strings.

It was incredibly dimly lit. Lighting was from an iphone on the table to the left (not for me, but so he could see what he was doing), an iphone in front of me to my right, and two ancient domed wall lights. Although travelling light, ie, no lights, I'd elected to take my two fastest lenses with me. Result was much better than anticipated.

S1R, Sigma 35mm f1.2 at about f1.4.

Lovely shot. Took a few moments to realise that when you said "shooting" you meant with a bow and arrow !!

Interestingly, having now got an S1 and an S!R, I did some test shots at ISO 12800. Even with LR's fancy NR, the S1 is still head and shoulders above the S1R at this sort of ISO level. Using that 35mm f1.2 was definitely the right choice!

I would be interested in how this is processed. It is very nicely done.
Well, it started with an EV bracket burst -2 to +2 (in raw). I then stacked the two extremes and the middle (-2, 0, +2) as a light-touch HDR in LR. I then did some level tweaking, cropping etc in LR. Then I used Nik Color Fx to add some glow and some black crushing. Then I did some final tweaks back in LR - added a post-crop vignette and boosted the whites a bit. I quite enjoy PP, so getting the best from a shot is part of the photo fun for me!
