The Specola of Florence is an ancient science museum, built where the Florence Observatory ("La Specola") once was.

We spent some hours there, visiting an exhibition showing a crystals collection with huge, rare, beautiful samples.

Alf, many thanks for again taking us with you on your journey! I would love to know more about that telescope. I read a really interesting book about two years ago The Age of Wonder: How the Romantic Generation Discovered the Beauty and Terror of Sciencehttp://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=&l=as2&o=1&a=0375422226&camp=217145&creative=399349" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> and one of the wonders discussed was one of the most amazing telescopes invented that could track the stars and planets. Of course my brain can't remember the person's name who was the inventor but the book is a fascinating read!
