So, there I was, Maldon in Essex on the River Blackwater. It was gone 10pm, and raining. The river was a smear in the darkness. My 5d Mk3 with 17-40L was on its tripod facing out towards that smear.

Click, the exposure started. I jumped out my skin when a voice behind me said "What yer doin?" I had not heard the body belonging to the voice creep up on me. "You'll see in 5 minutes" I said. "Ain't got that sort of patience" said the voice and he walked off with what looked like two red eyes and yellow fangs by his side. 'That's why I am a photographer and you aren't" I called out jokingly, "I heard him mutter something which ended in "........bollocks"

Anyways, it never ceases to amaze me just how much light you can dig out of the darkness......if you have the patience to wait for the exposure (s).

This one took 4 shots between 1 minute - 5 minutes at iso 100 f/8, and hdr'd with Nik software.

Maldon, Essex. The George Smee Smoking!!

The George Smee is a Thames Barge which has been lovingly restored by its owner for more years than I can remember. The tug is called "Brent" and is still.....after what seems a thousand years.....being restored.
