Leica Showcase Leica 50mm f/1.5 Xenon

I found that the lens tube on the Xenon had started to wobble a bit.
Luckily I'm getting pretty good at tearing it down quickly for adjustment:
-Unscrewed the entire unit in front of the aperture blades.
-Remove the outer aperture ring.
-Remove the lock screw on the knurled ring and remove that ring from the focus ring
-Loosen the 3 set screws around the lens tube behind the inner aperture ring
-Lock the lens tube in place through the service openings and unscrew the second unit that holds the aperture blades.
-The ring with the 3 set screws then sits free to lift out.

There are two guides on this last ring that slide in and out of openings in the focus mount. And these help keep the lens tube steady.
These guides consist of two tabs that are each split in two. On mine the two halves were pressed together causing the wobble.
I stuck a watchmaker screwdriver between the two halves of either tab to wedge them apart a bit.
Then when I slid the ring back in place I find the wobble is gone. Hurray!

After assembly and testing it on the M-E I find the lens has a slight front focus, when shooting wide-open at 1 meter. I'm talking about a 1 to 3 cm, which could be due to the LTM-adapter or my assembly skills. I'm not complaining. Will take the lens with me to the coast this weekend.

Went out for a walk with friend last saturday. Took the Xenon with me, mounted on the Leica M-E. (and a Leica IIIb with the 5cm f/2.5 Hektor)

My buddy has borrowed my Epson R-D1 for indefinite time, shown here with an early nickel-finish 5cm f/3.5 Elmar.

Nice shots.

The Dornier is a gorgeous high-speed high-altitude interceptor design. Good thing they didn't have enough oomph to build them in large numbers or have the experienced pilots to fly them.
Saw an interesting article today on wrecks of some Junker Ju-52s (and a few other classic aircraft) found in a junkyard in Greece.
