Leica Akademie is putting on a film workshop in April out of the new San Francisco store. Quinton Gordon is the instructor.

THE ANALOGUE WORKSHOP

I did a Los Angeles workshop led by Quinton this past January that was fantastic, and just signed up for this one.

Here are a few images from the January workshop "The Truth About Photographs" taken with my M Monochrom and BSS (Brian Sweeney Special) 1937 Carl Zeiss Sonnar.

Andrew - Thanks for the heads up, I just registered for that class. I didn't realize that the Akademie even offered film classes, hope to see you there.

I will see you there as I registered this morning. I'll be the oddball with the M5 and just one, as yet undecided lens.

I will see you there as I registered this morning. I'll be the oddball with the M5 and just one, as yet undecided lens.

I've got a couple of lenses you could try out, if they don't provide us with any to use for the class. I'm hoping to get some hands on time with the 21mm lux.

They have the full line at most of these. Thanks for the offer, but at this point I want to master the ones I have as I'm looking for a GAS-free 2015. Here are my options for this workshop:

Leica 35mm f/2.5 Summarit-M
Leica 50mm f/2 Summicron-M (non-APO current version)
Pre-war Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm f/1.5 Sonnar (used at last workshop, probably won't use this time)
Wartime Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm f/2 Sonnar T (not a likely choice for only lens)
1963 Zomz 5cm f/1.5 Jupiter 3 (possibility if I need the speed, but too close to last year's workshop lens)

I'm much more comfortable with 50mm than 35mm, so thinking of forcing myself to shoot the 35 only to get out of my comfort zone. If they use ISO 100 film though, I'll probably want the extra speed of the 50 Cron or the Jupiter 3.

With ISO 400 film either the 35 or 50 cron will work nicely.

Finally while they offer the loan of an M-A or M7, I want to shoot it with my M5, using both the built-in spot meter and my handheld Minolta incident meter.

Played with my M5 a bit this weekend and decided on sticking with 50mm for the workshop. So, 50 Cron
(non-APO) it is. Film in one pocket, yellow and orange filters in the other. Keeping it VERY simple.

I look forward to seeing the images from the M5- the nice thing about Leica, showing up with a new Digital or a 40+ year old camera and using the same lens.
