I've photographed this scene from a couple of angles that weren't ideal with the Leica C-112, but I got a new Manfrotto tabletop tripod (709B) a couple days ago, and using a steel traffic post for support I was able to capture this from about 1/4 mile distance. f5.8, 2.5 seconds, ISO 80, focal length ~180 mm.

That is excellent! I need to start taking the tripod and bubble level with me.

There are a lot of interesting options now for when you can't take the full-size tripod. The 2 little Manfrottos I have are nice, the Gorillapods are handy, the Joby Griptight works well for very small cameras and phones and can be worn on a lanyard, and the Zipshot and Zipshot Mini are very light and easy to carry, especially the Mini as long as you don't expect the tripod to resist a lot of wind or external vibration.

I still use the "big-Heavy" tripod that was bought at age 14 (42 years ago), at E.J. Korvettes... $28. I have some lighter ones, but I could use that ancient one with an anti-Tank gun.
