The question for me is not whether these lenses are better or not; modern lenses matched to the digital medium obviously have advantages. But I enjoy using legacy lenses on my X-Pro (or E-M5, for that matter). I find I need to shoot in raw to get what I want from them, but I shoot in raw for the most part anyway. Contrast and sharpening treatments are a bit different, but certainly not extreme.

Anyway, to start, here's a couple from an old 90mm Elmar f4 manufactured with single coating in 1946, nicely brassed, but with excellent glass.

Great thread, Lawrence, and some great images to kick it off. I came to Fuji from Leica so although I have very few lenses left now (and those LTM) I have done quite a bit of shooting with Leica glass on both Fuji and Ricoh (GXR) bodies and even some comparative testing. Here are some:

Great comparison shots -- and a great churchyard, by the looks of it. Thanks!

These are test shots, not anything I'd put in my resume, but I've always been reluctant to use the 135 f4.5 Hektor from 1949 on my digital bodies. When I got the lens I tried it out on an E-P2 and did't think much of the results on the whole, so I haven't used it much. The shots below are ooc jpegs, brightened up and resized only, with no other treatment -- no sharpening, no contrast adjustment other than to move the highlights slider left in the levels adjustment in Photoshop. (I'm afraid I retain an old slide film habit of using a -1/3 stop adjustment.) The X-pro was on its default jpeg settings in standard color mode, but with a +1 shadow adjustment.

One more from the 135 Hektor. Why have I been neglecting this lens? I'll be using it for a certain look in portraits going forward. But without my subject facing the setting sun.

From an ongoing series trying to document this cemetery. With the X-Pro 1 and a 1953 50mm f2 collapsible Summicron, a lens I'm very fond of, both on film and sensors.
