Sony Lens Hood Alignment

I have purchased an "As New" Sony SEL 24240 lens but found that the petal hood sit about 45 degrees off line. I notice that the location mark on the lens for alignments is at around the 4.00 position as viewed from the front and not on top as per other lenses. Can this be re-positioned, any help gratefully appreciated.

I'd recommend taking the hood off and realigning the alignment marks when installing it, making sure the hood fully engages the mount before turning the hood to 'click' it on. The hood bayonet on my 24-105 is not a 'one way only' type of mount so it can be forced on in the wrong orientation.

Not sure how to re-align, the problem seems to be the end of the lens where the alignment mark that should be on top of the lens is twisted round to about the 4 o-clock position, thanks for your response.

If the marks are off, then the bayonet connection is probably off. The hood can only go on right side up or at 180°, which is how the mount lines up. It looks to me like the front of that lens has been removed and not retightened all the way, or possibly overtightened, or something has slipped.

This could be a red flag for other issues or a repaired lens. Your term 'Like New' makes me think it was purchased (hopefully) from a reputable re-seller. I would call them and return the lens immediately for another. I know MPB had a ton of them a few weeks ago.

Many thanks, will see what I can do
