I am hoping for a little advice on lenses for my SL2-S. I bought the Sigma 24-70/2.8 DG DN II and it is very good, but, it is a lot bigger and heavier than I anticipated, it needs to go back, I think. I want a general purpose zoom and looking around, my candidates are the Sigma 28-70/2.8 DG DN (much smaller than the 24-70), the Panasonic 20-60/3.5-5.6, and the Panasonic 24-105/4. I probably already decided in my head after looking around. The 20-60 can be had for around $200 used, that seems to be almost a no brainer, it is small, and I like that it starts at 20mm. I also like the images on here from Paul, it looks to be an impressive lens given the size and price. Then there is the Sigma 28-70/2.8, I have it in the Sony version and it performs well, but I am not sure, it is neither here nor there. Not wide enough and not long enough. I have used it as indoor and outdoor lens but I am thinking that I need to stick to primes indoors and zoom with my feet more. The Panasonic 24-105/4 is probably the better all purpose walk around lens since it starts at 24 and goes to 105. Weight wise though, the 24-105 is 680 grams and the Sigma 24-70/2.8 DG DN is 745 grams, not a big difference. In comparison, the Sigma 28-70 is 470 grams and the Panasonic 20-60 is 350 grams. Size wise the Sigma 24-70 and P 24-105 are about the same length, Probably more than I want.
Going through this little exercise, I am leaning towards the 20-60 for size/cost and the images posted on here by Paul. It seems to be a bargain for what it is. As I go through the exercise though, maybe I should just keep the larger Sigma for those times when size and weight don't matter, because really, it is a stellar lens. Then get the 20-60 for general use, outdoors. For an AF prime, I am pretty well settled on the Sigma 35/2 DG DN, it is small with excellent image quality, I just need to trade my Sony version for the L version. I foresee using my M mount primes for most everything else.
Those are my thoughts/musings, anyone have any thoughts on these or other lenses?
