I just updated LR to the new version 12 which has been upgraded with all sorts of new masking tools. I've only experimented with a couple of them but so far they are superb. Examples will follow, but if you're a Lightroom user you should definitely update.

I didn't update yet, I'm going to wait a day or so to see if there are serious bugs, keeping an eye on the Adobe Community forum. These masking tools are great already in version 11, looking forward to find out what they came up with.

Yes, these AI select tools is really great ...already as they where actually, but now even better! Just wish they come to Photoshop also, strange that LR is much better at selecting objects than Photoshop 
Portrait related options are certainly enhanced with the new adaptive presets and the 'select people' masking tool, but I think these are good general updates that are applicable across a wide range of photo genres. There are also adaptive presets for 'sky' and 'subject'. The 'select people' masking works for any photo (with some limitations) which includes people and not just portraits.
The 'select object' masking tool is a major update and I've used it to select specific areas in an image for white balance adjustment that previously took lots of painstaking work with the brush tool. The content aware healing tool is another good update that works (for the most part) more effectively than the existing spot removal tool.
