I have the free nik software kit on my laptop and recently bought a desk top both are Mac products. I enjoy using silver efex and am trying to find if it is still available for free. I have seen older youtube vid and the location they show where to find it is no longer accessible or DXO has hidden it really well. Has anybody recently accessed it?
Or is it possible for me to somehow download it off my laptop and install on my desktop?
Thanks in advance.

You don't still have the old Nik executable somewhere, do you? Like in a downloads folder or a backup
Thanks for responding , I am guessing executable means original installer? I have this on my hard drive applications, on my laptop.

Maybe here:

Thanks for your post, I will try and open it on my desk top. I have seen a video that it doesn't install in the new Mac mini and you have to rewrite the install code so we will see what happens. LR has a decent selection of B&W plugins but I think the nik is better.

I would at least try the the 30 days free trial and take it from there. Damn Apple. This should give you notice for future software updates and stuff from apple. Make sure all the software you are currently using is compatible and will be compatible in the future. If you need the software that bad and don't want to fork out any dough. Take the Mac in and see if they can roll back the OS for you. Esp if the new features don't mean squat to you. Aka not worth the update/upgrade.

Good luck, :(

Apple started the process of moving to 64 bit 10 years ago. There was plenty of notice for both users and developers. The app store has required 64 bit apps for years. Legacy software gets left behind eventually. Everything changes.

I concur, maybe dxo will offer an update/fix for free down the road. And all will be well. @Acraftman why don't you just attach a 24' monitor to your laptop and your good, or is the hardware too old. It shouldn't be because that is what you were using before.

I probably could do that just thought it might be a possibility that something could be maybe simple :ROFLMAO:

Yes, really not all that interested in the new bells and whistles , I guess since I have been paying for PS every since they started charging I could possibly open that up and see what it can do after I finish crying over how stupidly complex it is for beginners .

Silver Efex these days isn't necessarily more bells and whistles, mainly it's just more powerful. U-points are much more capable, there are a lot more film and grain options, that sort of thing. I upgraded mainly because they added a Fomapan 100 profile, which is a film I use a lot so I liked having a digital analogue (hahah). It is too bad you can't buy a la carte, because I rarely use any of the other Nik plugins.

If you have a friend that's tech savvy, maybe they could torrent it for you. That's free, but make sure it's clean. That's what I did . Or just use the Laptop for your monochrome work. Solved !? ;)
