Hey Ray. Thanks. I've migrated to Fujifilm, which I consider neither a compact or MFT. But I enjoy lounging as I am not Serious. I am well. How the hell are you? What are you shooting with now?
Gary
I'm well too - no complaints at all. Staying out of trouble. I've been doing a bit less street, but still enjoying shooting. And when I get the chance to head into the city with a camera or two, I don't pass it up.
As for what I'm shooting with, jeez man, you won't believe me if I tell you. My two main cameras last year were the Sony RX1 and the Nikon Coolpix A, and I had a mix of Fuji and M43 to handle the other focal lengths, but I did the vast majority of my shooting with those two little fixed lens cameras. But the RX1 sort of ruined me because I'd never shot with full frame before and I was constantly astounded by the files from that camera as I'd work with them in processing. I've always had a sort of heavy hand with processing and those files held up to anything I threw at them in ways that NOTHING else I'd ever worked with did. I suppose that's all of the gobs of dymanic range it's recording, but I could throw anything at it and it came out looking how I wanted it to.
Basically what I'm saying is I got spoiled for full frame sensors. And then when I went looking for how to find them with a variety of focal lengths, I ended up where you started off - with a Nikon DSLR system (apologies if you used Canon - but I know you used to shoot a full frame DSLR of some sort). I thought about the Sony A7 family but there just aren't the lenses for it yet and I think the bodies need another generation or two of evolution as well. Then I shot some with both a D610 and a Df and loved 'em both - I ended up with a Df. The D610 has the same sensor as the RX1 and is amazing. The Df has the same sensor as the D4 and D4s and doesn't have quite as much dynamic range but is among the best low light cameras in existance (I think it was THE best until Sony released the A7s). The D610 and Df are both relatively small and I'm sticking mostly with smaller prime lenses and the overall package really isn't much larger than shooting with the X-Pro or XT1 setups I've used. These Nikon bodies are bigger, but not overwhelmingly so, and the lenses I'm mostly shooting with are mostly
smaller than the equivalent Fuji primes, which keep getting better and better but also larger and larger. If I was into shooting with fast zooms, I wouldn't be into full frame because that stuff is just prohibitively huge. But my primes are all pretty small and pretty good.
So anyway, I still have the RX1 and Coolpix A. The Coolpix A is still my main street camera (although I've done a fair amount of street with the Df too and there's not a damn thing wrong with it for that kind of shooting). The RX1 is kind of my very very very nice 35mm lens because I'd never get anything for the Nikon as nice as the Zeiss on that camera. And it's also a nice small/light alternative and some days I just go out with it and the Coolpix A and leave the bigger stuff at home - as I did when the bigger stuff was Fuji... But my main rig is a Nikon DSLR kit, so go ahead and have a chuckle, as I did when you first started talking about the fun of the experience shooting with Fuji.
BTW, that last photo in your last post - the "US" painted on the wall with the razor wire fence, is just
BRUTALLY good! That should show somewhere prominant...
