Leica M9 with SF58 and vintage lenses????

Ok, so i'm in love with my M9
and i'm using it with a Zeiss 50 f1.4, as well as a summicron 35, and 90

but as you all know, the m9 isn't the greatest in low light situations -

so i bought an SF58 to shoot photos of my kids and parties and stuff - and i'm finding it to be terribly cantankerous....
1/2 the time it doesn't fire, the other 1/2 its inconsistent - either full power causing washed out imagery - or just not strong enough to illuminate the object-

i've tried it on TTL as well as Auto and Manual - with similar results -

are these units always finicky?

Is it under warranty or have return privilige?

If it is not firing- something is wrong.

If it is washing out on Auto- something has to be wrong with the flash.

I hope you get your flash issues worked out, but I find the M9 can shoot in very low light; with a super speed lens. I shoot very often with CV 50/1.1 and CV 35/1.2 and Sonnetar 50/1.1. Focus is of course more challenging, but take some extra shots and many will be fine. I have a higher hit rate in low light with M9 than A7
