Announcement Maintenance - Sunday, Jan 12, 2025

If you use the Search prompt and go from there (I use right click for a new tab, but you can obviously just click a link in the list provided), you shouldn't run into trouble. Hitting "Enter" or "Search" doesn't help once the prompt works - the prompt's been your best bet for a very long time. I don't know why it works so much better, but it does. The list you get after the Search function runs is always a lot less helpful. I was able to find "Lone Trees - B&W" by entering "lone" in the Search prompt, though. Didn't have to change any settings, either.

I’m not sure I entirely follow, but if by prompt, you mean a list of results that start to come up as type words into the search box, that doesn’t happen on the mobile platform which is exclusively how I browse here. So I don’t have the option to use the predictive results, as there are none. I have to hit “enter” and cross my fingers.

Thanks for the clarification, Chris. I honestly wasn't aware that the Search prompt method wasn't an option for mobile users.

But maybe Kevin can change that ...

In no particular order....

- The EXIF data should now be retained whether folks do "Insert Image", drag-and-drop, copy-and-paste, or use the "Attach Files" button. If anybody using the "Attach Files" button is not seeing their expected EXIF yet, please let me know as it means I missed a spot (with XF 2.3 there are several manual edits that needed to be done since "Attach Files" appears in multiple spots).
- I'm not sure why the 'blue ball' for unread alerts would be working for some but not others. I couldn't get it to work with any of my experiments and thought then it wasn't working for anybody. The 'blue ball' icon is part of a third-party add-on and the developer is looking into it.
- The 'out-of-the-box' search capabilities of XenForo are pretty limited and so we use several third-party add-ons to enhance the search features. The developer is aware of some issues being reported with mobile devices and is looking into it.
- When viewing EXIF data the tree expand/collapse buttons not appearing when viewing the full EXIF pop-up is on my list to take a look at. The EXIF info' add-on is something I wrote for Cameraderie and the method of showing the raw data in the trees is using a stock XenForo function so why it has started acting up with some images with XF 2.3 is something that I'm still trying to determine if it is an issue with XF 2.3 or if XF 2.3 has changed something that would require a change to our add-on. I'm still working on this one.

Any idea on the notification bell for mobile? If I click on it to see active notifications, the tray opens to show me them, but when I click the bell again to close the tray, it takes me directly to the notifications page and I have to back out again . It never used to not do that.

Interesting, what you describe, Chris, is how the notication bell has always worked for me. I don’t browse here with mobile, but MacOS and iPadOS (Safari on both). Click the bell once, get the notification list with blue dots. Click it again - intuitively thinking that would close it - get taken to the full notification page. Rather, to back out of the notification list, I click somewhere else on the header bar and the tray closes. It’s been that way for my devices ever since I rolled over to Cameraderie from FujiXSpot long ago. Interesting to see other users with a different experience on this feature.

A secondary click has always closed the tray on mobile for me, until just recently. Hmmm.

I've been getting a couple of these while drag and dropping to upload

I only encounter this sometimes if I have a page open for a longer time (overnight).
What helps in all cases, Irene, is just to reload the page

, then everything works fine again.

This is a PHONE only problem. (Android in my case)
When I click the like button, it gives a thumbs up, no problem.
But when I long click the like button to see the rest of the reaction emojis, THIS screen pops up.
When I then 'go back' it shows all the emoji choices

IME, that's been the case with touch screens forever ... It's actually possible to get at the list directly, but it's really hard to gauge the right "slightly less than a second" duration. I've had that happen to me on iPad, Android tablet and smartphone ...

Such stuff contributes to my preference of "classic" laptops with a track pad (or some other pointing device); I usually even carry a bluetooth mouse for that reason. No fiddling ... some fuss, though.

It never happened to me before this maintenance upgrade while using the phone - completely new issue (for me)
I generally work from a PC and it's much better for viewing photographs, but sometimes I do the doom-scroll in bed on the phone (as one does ...)

It happens to me periodically, Irene.
