Feedback Megapixel Limit?

Is there a limit on the image size in regards to megapixels or dimensions on this site? I’m trying to upload a relatively normal sized file (11mb before auto resizing), but the forum won’t even accept it. It doesn’t even attempt to load a 45MP photo. It’s unfortunate, as I’m debating a camera with this sensor size after using it. Is this something that can be worked around, or am I doing something wrong? I transferred the jpg image from the camera my phone directly using the cameras app, and attempted to post, as I usually do.

Thanks in advance.

Don't have any link to prove it, but I've always understood that the upload limit here is 10mp on jpeg files. I always resize in LR to ensure the file size of each jpeg I upload here is less than that.

Hmmm. I’ve never had any issues with image sizes up to about 30ish MP, but again, I’m thinking there is a difference in MP and MB allowances here. The only time I couldn’t upload something else was a handheld hi res shot from a gh6 and I think it was because the dimensions/MP were too big.

Chris, you really need to feed the forum software something less than 10MB, which it will resize to 1600 pixels on the longer edge.

I don't know the exact limits, but will be both file size and pixel dimensions. The web hosting software has limits set, then Xenforo has its own limits.

I was only trying to load an 11MB jpg. I’ve loaded way larger file sizes here before without issue. The issue I believe is the dimensions associated to larger MP files, and is relatively free of MB size.

11,044 x 4,608 (27.4 MB) original uploaded in Firefox/Windows seems to work

And it is resized on upload to 400KBytes and 1065x1600. You can check your "Attachments" Tab when clicking on your username in the upper left corner.

My advise: resize the image to smaller than the value where the "resize" function kicks in. It will use lossy compression. Use LR or Photoshop to resize to the maximum and save with highest level, which on JPEG is lossless. If you want full-size, upload to flickr or imgbb and link here.

I’ve had this happen in the past and it seemed to be image specific. Something about the way that it was saved just knackered the upload process. I went back and re-saved it with a slightly different set of output options from Lightroom and it worked after that.
Interesting. In this case, I just transferred the jpg directly to my phone from the camera. But again, that’s how I often post. I’ll be curious if after a DxO treatment and then saving to the cloud and downloading it temporarily to post (the other way I usually do it) if it all of a sudden will work ok. I’ll play with that when I get home and see what happens.

So if I made the slightest adjustment to the file on my phone, in this case a very minor crop, it had no issue allowing me to select the photo. I feel like I’ve ran into this with files from my Olympus as well, where they post sideways until you do something to the file and re-save it, and then they post normally.

I suppose disregard my post. Nothing really wrong per se, just a little strange behavior.

So I’d like to raise this question again…

The new to me hi res A7R5 has files saving well over 100mb (not pixels, file size) after I make edits or adjustments, and seemingly anything exceeding 100mb refuses to upload. The upload dialogue box just drops out. If it’s smaller, it’ll go through and the forum will autosize to whatever it normally does. Can this limit be removed, if in fact confirmed that this is the case? I’m not going to save two different sized copies of photos I take with the Sony, just so I can share some here.

Edit - just like before, if I happen to make the slightest edit to the file on my phone and re-save it, it uploads just fine. Totally odd behavior, but now it seemingly accepts files over 100mb.

That's Android, Chris. It doesn't honour the ROTATE tag from the camera. Editing programs mostly seem to, and then the forum software recognises it correctly.

You can save yourself a lot of time, and data, by using any editor on your phone to resize the image prior to uploading. Snapseed and Photoshop Express both have default settings that do this.
