Mill Creek Bridge

Since I first learned of this bridge earlier this year, I have been eager to get back to it at Autumn's peak. It is part of a converted railway that once serviced the coal mine along Mill Creek in West Virginia's New River Gorge. With very steep and treacherous terrain, I can't imagine what it must have been like to work in that mine. Just to the left of the bridge as one is facing downstream, there is an abandoned stone building that was built literally on the edge of a rock bluff. The building is bracketed by a pair of waterfalls, and when the water flow is sufficient, the sound is amazing. I've tried to photograph the scene, but none of my photos have turned out to my satisfaction due to the heavy overgrowth around the building. I have no idea what the function of the building was, but I can imagine what it must have been like to be in the building at night when those waterfalls were at high flow. Fuji X30.
