Been reading a lot about how nice this lens is so got decided to give it a try. I was able to get one with a stuck aperture but nice glass (radioactive version) for not too much money. Decided to operate on the lens myself and was very happy to fix the issue myself. Even documented the fix just in case. Anyway, took a few shots to try out on my A7r. I am sure with the right setting, this lens can really shine.

Well, the minute one of you technically inclined types puts one of these up for sale with rangefinder coupling I will happily buy it (hint hint, pretty please). I used to shoot Minolta over 30-years-ago and they always had wonderful glass, with the 58/1.2 being perhaps the king of their old manual focus lineup. I had the pleasure to own and use their 85/1.4 AF lens when I shot a Sony DSLR and that too is pure bokelicious delight with delightful Minolta color and the creamiest bokeh this side of a 75/1.4 Summilux-M.

The more I use this lens, the more I am impress with it. So easy to focus, even at f1.2. The color is also very good.

Here is a picture straight from the A7r without any post processing and below it is one I did some minor adjustment.

Minolta sure made some great lenses over the years. I had an 85mm f/1.4 for my old Minolta Maxxum that had some of the best bokeh I've ever seen while still being tack-sharp in the center wide-open and from corner to corner from about f/2.8.

Even the lowly 45mm f/2 that came with my SRT 200 was a fantastic lens with real pop.

Yes they sure do. I have never used a Minolta SLR lens before but did like their CLE lens very much. I am now thinking about getting a 200 f2.8. When will this ever end..
