Kodak Ultramax 400 test (shutter issue?)
by Ztryfe, on Flickr

Some of my frames came back with that black section in the bottom, If I am correct, this is the upper... left side of the shutter, looking at it with the cover open. I've tried setting the shutter to 1 second, and firing a number of times, cant see anything wrong when its open. But I do see some folds of black fabric there, I guess folded under / between the mirror? Is this a problem with the shutter? Isnt this horizontal travel shutter? is this something common with these machines?

I need to get better at scanning the negatives !

For closing the circle and helping other folks with this problem.

My SRT had this issue:

I figured out the shutter issue, with help from Derek from Straight, No Chaser.

He mentioned some of the cloth / fabric under the mirror could have detached from it and produced this picture.

Mentioning that the cloth in the red circle should be attached to the mirror.

Mine looked different:

Sure enough, after fiddling with the cloth a little with some tweezers, I got the issue on B mode:

I used my tweezers and patience to leave the cloth as in the picture from Derek

And a couple of dozen actuations later, couldnt get the issue again, I am now running another test roll, but I am fairly certain its going to be okai.
