You're right, John. Files from the original 12mp micro four-thirds sensors and even the GH2 tend to be a bit on the "brittle" side. The latest sensors from Sony (and whatever Panasonic may unveil next) might be different. That's why I tend to shoot jpgs only with my micro four-thirds equipment. But I think you've helped me make up my mind about the K-01. Thanks; I'll let you know.

Squared

I've been using the square format a lot this year and really like it for some quite surprising things! Here's a square crop in colour for a change. Not sure wether it loses some context without the shoulders though.

the colour is lovely (as usual with your processing), but I think the shoulder adds to it. Although I am also a big fan of the square crop in general. One great thing about squares, is super cheap decent size frames. Check out album art frames 12 inches square can usually be found on sale for around $10.

Yea, you're right, the should needs to peak and then start descending ever so slightly to be read as a shoulder. I'd be willing to sacrifice some of the hair on the left, pushing the forehead right to the edge of the frame, but that's just me. Still, it's a lovely shot.

Would you happen to have some of the Pentax Q shots available?
I was actually enjoying the K-01 so much that I forgot that I had the Q in the bag. After lunch I took it out and snapped a bit but wasn't really feeling it - I think the 01 Prime (47mm EQ) wasn't the right focal length for the situation, and the constant lights weren't as powerful as strobes - they actually recommended ISO800 for the shoot. So I put it back rather quickly. Here are a couple of grabshots:

I think I could have gotten some good shots with it, but I would have had to work a bit harder for them, and it was at the end of a long day. I did get some nice street shots, which I'll post in the Q section later.
