Monarch Chrysalis from the Backyard:
All shot with X-E2, 60mm and on-board flash.

The Monarch caterpillar splits it skin to expose the chrysalis beneath, then pulses and rotates to get rid of the skin. It all happens rather quickly, after the chrysalis is exposed to air/light it will smooth out.
Mary Lou and I found the caterpillars/chrysalis while pruning the roses. Here are a few blossoms we rescued from the pruning.
