This may be why it's better to "Never grow up!"
I think my eyes are bleeding.

Exactly! This is NOT a Mustang - Ford erred in not calling it the Edison or some other Tesla-killer name. This is an insult to an American icon!!!
At least the new Bronco is anything BUT an insult! Ford went to even greater pains to recreate the authenticity of the Bronco than I thought they would. The 2-door edition, with a manual transmission, it's a sweet ride!

Ford announced that Mustang is now the name of a line of vehicles and not just the car. :(
Just beat me to it. Mustang is now a "brand" all it's own. Slap the current Mustang headlights and taillights on anything and call it a Mustang.

I've notice this trend a lot lately, think about Oreo cookies. An Oreo is a chocolate cookie with a cream filling, not all these other things. I just checked, there are 39 different Oreos.

This is probably a nice vehicle, but if you tell someone you have a Mustang and they see this you will only see looks of disappointment. I wouldn’t buy it for that reason alone. ;) Imagine dropping a bunch of cash on this crossover only to hear it’s not a real Mustang all the time.

Porsche Cayenne owners probably heard that too but that car saved the company.

But maybe they should have called it the Ford Fusion and built that name.

Or escort or Taurus or even Fairlane

Afaik Porsche didn’t resurrect cayenne from some past model and try to sell on nostalgia

And that’s the issue here with this model and Ford in general - they make boring cars and then try to slap on a nastalgic name on a car with no ties to the past.

the car and driver article basically said as they built it they realized everyone is building an EV SUV so to make it standout, they grabbed a name plate, souped up the performance and threw on a tri band tail light.

They would be better served to make an exciting and appealing product and then the name could be innovated

OR decide to make an EV mustang

don’t make and EV SUV that’s generic and boring and try to save it with a legacy nameplate

Yes, but at least the Porsche team named their experiment with a new name. They did not call it a 911 - that would have been a disaster for the real 911. This may be a good vehicle (I don't mind Ford) but it's NOT a Mustang. That name belongs to an iconic car - a pony car. This is a Tesla with Ford branding, call it something else, don't drag down the Mustang name with a 4-door SUV that doesn't make noise.

While we're here, it seems to me that vehicle manufacturers still haven't figured out what to do at the front of an electric car in place of a radiator grille. That big oval piece of plastic with the mustang symbol is defintely not the answer though.

Give it time; it hasn't been that long.

After all, here's what a concept drawing of an early "horseless carriage" looked like:

But the Sport is tiny, really really tiny. I haven't seen the non-Sport models yet, hopefully they are more in size to the original Bronco.

When teasing the upcoming Gen 1 Cayenne, Porsche did have the audacity to invoke the Dakar winning 959 to suggest the upcoming car would have some of that spirit, which had me seriously wound up when I saw what a plump, posh, heavy ugly duckling the gen1 Cayenne turned out to be.

Although to be fair, they did compete in the Paris to Peking rally a few times with the Gen1 (never the Dakar unfortunately).
