Street My Photo Diary: Street Cars of Desire

The South West Street Rodder's celebrated their 50th Anniversary with a cruise along the main street in Hamilton, Victoria, Australia. I did something extraordinary and attended by myself, as my husband - who shares my car passion - had to be elsewhere. And I had a blast!

For years, I've been trying to improve my Every Day Carry camera IQ, and though I do adore my dated Fujifilm X30 compact, mu43 IQ is really where I'm happiest. With the terrific touchscreen of Panasonic, I decided to grab a pancake zoom for my GX9, settling on the Olympus 14-42mm EZ. It isn't great, but isn't any worse in good light than the smaller sensor cameras I've tried. Good- and compact-enough to have in my bag anytime I'm out.

The biggest frustration was turning the zoom the opposite direction to what I'm used to, and the slight delay in motion with the power zoom. For this reason, I missed too much action. Bonus: less photos to edit!

Mostly I shot P for Program, and edited on my phone with Snapseed, going for a slightly filmic look.

I definitely wouldn't choose it for something which really mattered! This event was just an opportunity to try it out. I have added a wee bit of grain to the images, they weren't often pin sharp, and I like a filmic look, especially for this kind of subject.

The PL12-60mm is the lens I'd most likely prefer, but it's a lot bigger and heavier than I'd want to put in my shoulder bag, which is heavy enough already.

In fact, to call it a "tad bigger" is a wild understatement, as you can see!
