Well.... I've gone and done it !!!
It's taken 6 months or so, of looking researching etc... but I eventually decided on the Nikon D7000.
Tried out the D700/800, but it was like holding a brick, let alone carrying it about... so decided on the more 'compact' APS-C sensor, D7000... The functionality of a full-frame Nikon, but without the bulkiness and weight which goes with them.
There is talk on the Nikon Rumours sites that Nikon will launch a full frame D600 model at Photokina 2012, with a very affordable $1500 price tag, but the functionality will be downgraded, to suit AF-S lenses only, another reason I chose the D7000.
Bought a second hand Nikkor 18-55 (DX) as a cheap starter lens, but have my eyes on a few others for more specialist needs... will let you know how it goes... lol
