Well, I finally downsized and sold ALL of my Nikon gear to fund my ever brand-new Leica M. As a die-hard CCD fan, I went with the M-E instead of an M-240, and also because it will use all of the same batteries and chargers (not to mention have same control layout) as my M Monochrom.

I was so tempted to get Drew's DF when I saw it posted but I think my next DSLR will be a Canon. Mainly due to the ease of adapting a Leica R lens to the Canon body.

Have fun with the M-E.

I lose a Nikon Df buddy... I have the M9, and the M8- I understand... I also have about 100 Nikon lenses.
I really liked the Df, but I'm trying to simplify and streamline, so three distinct systems with three sets of chargers, three sets of batteries and two sets of interchangeable lenses was just too much.

So from now on, its either Leica M for serious photography or Leica X for casual travel.

Thanks, I had a used M9 before (returned it due to sensor issues) so I already know I'll like it. Its also a perfect color complement for the M Monochrom.

To me- the M Monochrom paired with the M-E or M9 has many advantages, I've never unpacked my charger from the Monochrom. I keep a pair of spare batteries in the case, drop the Monochrom on one side and M9 on the other- good to go.

I ended up writing my own software to convert M9 images to Monochrome DNG. I figured out the "final trick". After all that, using the M9 with yellow filters and doing custom interpolation, convinced now more than ever that the Monochrom delivers the cleanest images possible from a hand-held digital camera.

Thanks all. I bought the M-E strictly for color as I already own the vastly superior M Monochrom for black and white. I also shoot B&W JPEG (and color DNG) on my X Vario and X 113 for non-photography travel.

For the film class I'm bring the M5 (obviously) and haven't decided yet about digital. I'm leaning toward the M5 with 35mm f/2.5 Summarit and either the M Monochrom with 50mm f/2 Summicron or the X 113 for night shooting on Friday and Saturday nights after class lets out.

I took the M-E with 50mm f/2 Summicron to court with me this morning. All images at ISO 160, aperture usually around f/4 as I didn't bring an ND filter. The shopping cart image was captured with the "Pull ISO 80" setting and the last shot of the building was at ISO 320. All images are converted in LR5 with very slight nudges to the black point and clarity sliders, but no other post.

I've seen that lens before! The color with the uncoated Sonnar is amazing. I had the 1937 8.5cm f2 out yesterday, with the custom-indexed cam. Amazing.

I have to force myself to using other lenses.

Thank you. I really am in love with the M9 generation cameras and see this new M-E and my now 2-year-old M Monochrom remaining my prized possessions for years to come.

I also see myself sticking with the same three lenses, the 35/2.5 Summarit, 50/2 v5 Summicron and 1937 Zeiss 5cm f/1.5 Sonnar. I might like to add a 28mm or 90mm, but am reluctant as I doubt they'd get much use. For the rangefinder with a 35 or 50mm lens is about as good as it gets.
