Hello everyone,
I'm a pro photographer and videographer, manly in documentary and fashion arenas, my gear and that of the magazine I wok for "ELLE Orient" is Nikon & Canon Pro DSLRs with a dozen of boat-anchor prime and L lenses. Although I'm a strong guy with a very good low heart BPM, my hands and neck started to feel like they had enough with DSLRs and was like begging for something lighter and easier to carry on specially when I'm on the go or during outdoors hikes or backcountry skiing adventures.
I did all my best to convince myself to use one of these small to medium compacts instead of my DSLR but honestly I couldn't. I just couldn't make the compromise in IQ or the built "plasticity" of those machines... Then the X Vario came out, with reviewers butchering it as if was Leica's biggest mistake. Then, months later, some different reviews started to hit the net, reviewers were talking positively about the X Vario this time, showing stunning pictures and somehow admitting Leica was not wrong after all, and that the choice of sensor/lens combo was a killer. So, 2 months ago, during a trip to LA, I had the chance or luck to test drive the Leica X Vario at Leica Store Los Angeles. I said luck because there was a special event called X Vario Discovery Day and it happened that I dropped by that beautiful store just one day before. So I immediately got myself subscribed.
My first impression when I first get the XVario in my hands was ROCK, this is way better built than any compact I've seen, I was amazed but not sold not until I see the results of my test shoots, they were all taken in B&W high contrast JPG. What I experienced that day and every day since, was beyond my expectations, the camera not only is ridiculously easy to use and reliable but also capable of outputs that exceeds the sum of its specs or size. The x Vario has simply put My DSLRs into deep hibernation mode.
From portraits to Macro, from architecture to landscape and everything in between, I'll show you the outcome here and in future posts so you can judge by yourself.
Thanks for reading. It's Showtime
