Nikon Showcase Nikon Coolpix A Image Thread

I've been spending my time with the Df lately, and the "A" was getting lonely. When I planned to take the Df into Philly again today, the A got pissed and started yelling at me about neglect, so I decided to go minimalist and took the A and ONLY the A, so no bags or zooms or anything extraneous. It was nice to get reacquainted - this has been one of my favorite cameras ever and it still is.

I walked over the Ben Franklin Bridge for the first time in the 22 plus years we've lived here. Was expecting and hoping for a foggy morning, but that didn't happen, so I had to settle for a nice sunrise over not-so-beautiful downtown Camden, and the nice morning light on Philly. Then I walked all over the city and did some street shooting, which is the A's strong suit, at least for me...]

Very nice set of images!

Ray,

I love doing this with my GR, it clears the head and hand of other extraneous things like what lens to use etc.

Most comparison reports I read said that the GR and Nikon A were on par but is it just me but somehow the A seem a tad better.
Probably just processing.

I wouldn't say either is "better" than the other, but they're just different enough to develop a preference for either. The basic colors are the most obvious difference in terms of output - the Ricoh is more muted while the Nikon is a bit more vibrant and saturated. I pretty strongly preferred the Nikon, but even I wouldn't call it better - just a couple of differwnces in features that worked a lot better for how I shoot, but likely wouldn't matter to most folks. The lenses and sensors are so close to identical, though, that I don't think there's any notable difference in technical IQ between the two...

GREAT set! And more good ones on Flickr.

As I noted on Flickr, I'm always a bit ambivalent about shooting in galleries and museums because I'm never quite sure whether I'm shooting someone else's art or creating my own. In these, you've very definitely used the layout of the museum to create your own images. Great stuff!

Definitely one of the situations where the "A" excels in..:)

I'm really enjoying using the A. Exposure is always well within the range of the RAW files and the lens is sharp. Since it has no IS, I've been relearning to brace the camera better, even at the wide FL. I've gotten too used to just reaching down one-handed and popping off a shot for a low subject. I definitely saw some motion blur in a few of these. Of course, I thought i had auto iso and was set at 200. On a day like today 640 is a better choice.
