Nikon Showcase Nikon D700 Image Appreciation Thread

Is that the 45mm Ai-P f/2.8 you are referring to?
Just checking because that's one of the Nikkors I like best.
Tastes differ of course and absolutely nothing wrong with that whatsoever.

Dusting off some of my DSLR's today -

Nikon D700 + 45mm AI - not a great lens but the sun-bursts are cool

Nikon D700 + 55mm f2.8 AF Micro-Nikkor (apparently not a very common lens)

Mines a GN - I have a sneaking suspicion it was pre-AI and has been factory converted but I'm not 100% sure. Predates the AI-P by 20 or so years. I'll primarily use it on some of my film-nikons because it makes them more compact (even then the Nikon E 50 f1.8 is also pretty compact) but occasionally I dust it off for the D700. On that body I tend to favour the AF zooms or primes - the body is such a beast it doesn't tend to make much difference to the overall package by slapping a bigger lens on (a D700 is only ever going to be pocket-able if you're Andre the Giant).

TBH I got the lens mostly for novelty value (ditto the Pentax 40mm f2.8) and to scratch the pancake itch (the Panasonic 20mm is probably my favourite lens even though its AF is glacial in speed).

I see. 20 years could indeed make a difference.
I had two reasons to get this lens: the focal length of 45mm works really well - at least for me - and this one, the Ai-P, is definitely a pancake lens.
The fact that it's a tessar is an additional bonus. I really like the results I'm getting (D700, Df and film).

D700 & 18mm f3.5 Nikkor AIS - actually quite tough to pull off a decent shot & wide on full-frame sense like a much bigger canvas to fill than micro-four-thirds - need to try off-camera flash and maybe a tripod. Although to be fair this old lens probably didn't have super-close focus in mind when it was designed.

I like to think the bee in flight right in the middle is winking at me and says "Good luck mate" as I struggle to get a shot without the aide of a nice big LCD screen like my m43 cameras.

One of my favorite cameras and my first FX DSLR. I do miss it sometimes.
