Nikon Nikon Df

Cool! Maybe could open that up to (gasp) Canon shooters too. If you want to have a complete rebellion and anarchy, that is. :roflmao:

They are remarkably open-minded there about discussing and shooting with any kind of gear. One of the founders, now deceased, made it part of the mission statement apparently. Canon discussion and photos are no problem :).

Did you take possession of the Df?

If I were able to find a Df for the right price it would probably, along my m240....displace a whole bunch of unused cameras.

I got it. $1700 shipped, brand-new with only 5 clicks. It has a "gift" receipt dated in late march 2017, and the seller (on Fred Miranda) says he won it as a raffle item.

I'm in Denver this weekend for a law conference and brought the Df instead of a Leica, with a 40-year-old Russian 50mm f/2 Helios 81-N stuck on the front.

Great price!

When you say " Russian 50mm f/2 Helios 81-N stuck on the front", I hope you mean "mounted".... My definition of "Stuck" means the lens will not come off...which I've had to deal with more times than most people.

"Stuck" in that I'm not taking it off all weekend as I didn't bring any other lenses or a body cap. It comes off quite easily with a press of a button and a simple twist, as designed.

I got my Df back today from Kurt's Camera Repair in San Diego, CA. They fitted a trimmed K3 focusing screen from a Nikon FM3a, calibrated for accurate focus with both AF and MF lenses with AF point AND split screen, and cleaned the sensor, all for $105.

Here are two images taken with my Df. The first using the split-screen to manually focus the 50mm f/1.2 AIS and the second using auto-focus for the AF-S 58mm f/1.4 G. Both lenses wide-open near MFD, NO post.

That's a great price for that work.

Love the SN on your 50/1.2 Ais. I'm glad they still make them. It's a highly under-rated lens.

Yeah, I was very happy when I opened the box and saw that. I'll have to play with it more against the 58/1.4 G. So far, I like them both about equally.

I would like to see some side-by-side comparisons between the 50/1.2 and 58/1.4. I've compared the 50/1.2 with the 50/1.1 Nokton, and with the older 55/1.2 Ai. These are all under-rated lenses.

I'll be shooting some graduation portraits of my daughter this weekend, but not sure what I'll use.

Either Leica M-D with 50/0.95 Noct and 90/2.8 Elmarit or Nikon Df with either the 58/1.4G or the 50/1.2 AIS and the 105/2.5 Sonnar.

Most likely I'll pick tomorrow morning when I pack. Whichever kit I bring will also be my kit for a trip to Philadelphia (two weeks military, one day off to shoot), so I have to pick carefully.

All packed and ready for a portrait session with my daughter tomorrow and then off for two weeks military training. Bringing the Nikon Df with its beautiful new split-image focusing screen and the following glass; 24/2.8 K (factory AI'd), 50mm f/1.2 AIS, 105/2.5 Sonnar (AI'd) and 135/2.8 K (factory AI'd).

I'm especially looking forward to using the 50 and 105 for the portraits, and the 24 and 135 in and around Penn's landing for the USS Olympia and (across the river) the USS New Jersey.

Well, ended up leaving the whole bag at home and just brought the Df with the 50/1.2. The 135 would have been nice shooting the USS New Jersey across the river, but not carrying a camera bag or any extra gear was even nicer.

I took the same trip last year and brought a Canon 5D3 with a 35/1.4 and while that lens were terrific, I prefer 50mm for walk-around street photography.

Images to come

Walked around Penn's Landing and on the USS Bacuna (WWII Submarine) and USS Olympia (Spanish-American War Protected Cruiser).
