The Nikon Nikkor Z 24-120mm F4 S is a standard zoom lens for the full-frame mirrorless Z mount. We've been shooting with one for a few days, and in this article we'll be providing an overview of Nikon's latest S-series zoom.

I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this lens - however, I may be in for a longer wait than others (it seems to be shipping in the U.S. - but I have no way of confirming that).
So far reviews of this and the 100-400 are pretty positive. The S lineup is looking pretty good. Not enough to make me reconsider my decision to stay with the smaller system. But Nikon was my first love so it's great to see.
In my hands the Oly EM1.2 and 12-100/4 feel about the same weight as the Z6 and 24-120/4, but the Oly feels more front heavy.
Auto focus is FAST. very happy about that.
The lens function button is nice, but for my hand it feels a little awkwardly placed. Just have to use it more to know if there is anything there that is an issue. I’m used to not having lens function buttons, so not a deal breaker by any means.
It may loosen up over time, but I’ve not experienced any lens creep for the hour I was out hiking with it.
All the rings are easy to find and use.
The lens hood snaps on positively and I have no fear of it falling off. I had my f-mount 24-70/2.8 hood fall off more times than I can count. I find the bayonet style lens hoods Nikon is using on the Z to be superior.
I’ve got a few images to share, and will publish soon, but the IQ appears to be good. I still have to determine if it is equal to the Z 24-70/4 and that will take shooting in similar conditions and subjects for me to determine. Today was sub optimal shooting conditions. Still was happy.
It was cold enough I needed to wear gloves. It was snowing and 35-40F. No issues with controls on the Z6 or the 24-120/4.
I do have some time set aside for some street shooting tomorrow at my normal haunt if the weather cooperates. I’m also going to Cuyahoga Valley National Park this weekend and plan on shooting the Z6 and 24-120 exclusively. Give it a real good test.
I also plan on running this lens on the Zfc and see how it balances and performs.
First few days I normally shoot new lenses wide open to get an idea of their performance at that aperture. I'll switch it if the scene calls for it and I really "want" that image.

OK, so had another chance to run this lens. Spent a weekend in some "target rich" environments this weekend.
On the Z6, the lens is phenomenal and I'll have no issues replacing the 24-70/4 with this lens. IQ it is on par, to my eyes. I want to test it on the Z fc and see how it feels, but I expect it to be just fine there with the Smallrig grip I've added to it.
I've added some images from the last shoot to the street art thread and will continue to do so...but will add a few here as well.

First run with the Z fc. No handling issues. Balance is a little more front heavy here compared against the lens mounted on the Z6, but nothing that caused me issues.
