Now, I am no prude. Nor, however am I a purveyor of prurient porn...

Imagine my surprise when I dipped into my own 500px portfolio (you can find it at Bill Palmer ) and I discovered that a couple of my images had been not just labelled as "NSFW" but actually shrouded from view, thus...

What was so awful, I mused, so shocking in my body of work, that it should be hidden so assiduously from public view?

Let me show you...

Words honestly fail me.

I just hope that we have reached peak woke...

But....but...they are nekkid!! My goodness, the damage you could have done to some poor unsuspecting soul of they had seen these and not been warned!!

The censorship automation is way too out of control on some of these sights. And good luck trying to get someone at the actual company to hear the case. Been down that road before.

they are excellent images.

I must be culturally illiterate. In the just the past few days, I've had to Google the definitions for the terms "woke" and "retcon". Both have been used ad nauseum in numerous YouTube videos complaining about the direction of certain SciFi franchises. I had no idea what either term meant, and I really don't recall hearing them until the last few weeks.

Perhaps I need to emerge from my sawdust-filled dungeon a bit more often . . .

Actually when you think about it David is not all that well endowed!
And yes I know all about the saying “it’s not what you’ve got, but what you do with”!,

Mike; the ancient Greeks thought big penises were vulgar, a modest one was the beauty ideal. That was copied in many of the statues that were modeled on ancient greek statues. Also, if my memory of Bible classes at school is correct, David was all about being small of stature but big of deeds... ;-)

Apart from that, please protest, Bill... The more actual humans have to judge the faulty work of the AI, the better the odds of it being tweaked to eradicate this kind of insanity.

It was probably an automated algorithm that categorised your photos as NSFW. You should raise it as an issue for review.

If a human at 500px reviews your case and still decides it's still NSFW, then it can be only two things:

1) he/she's a dumb 16 year old intern who doesn't know any better, or

2) it's time to pick up our pitchforks.

Or was the block of stone not quite big enough(pun intended)
They also thought that very plump women were quite sexy, which seems to be the opposite of modern wishes. I must admit I don’t agree with nutritionally challenged ladies! Sadly I don’t fit the petite heroic mould either, hey ho. (y)

It's very hard to make an AI understand the difference between art and pornography. Justice Potter Stewart once said ''I shall not today attempt . . . to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced within [that definition of prosecutable obscenity ]. . . But I know it when I see it, and the motion picture involved in this case is not that.''

Actually culture/region plays large part on what is considered attractive. There was an article about a woman being photoshop'd by people in different countries and the results, as I recall, were interesting.

when it comes down to nudity, it all boils down to "intent". Will AI ever evolve enough to become aroused? Right now, it just sees a body part revealed that current societal norms say should be covered is inappropriate. Humans can look at the sculpture (or photograph) and see that it is merely a reflection of the human form and our experience with seeing this type of "image", we understand that it was not created to "arouse'.

Maybe one day with enough computer calculating power, AI will see enough images (and with enough input data about which are acceptable nudity and which are NSFW) that computers may actually learn to recognize it better.

As far plump female statues go, I have an inkling that somebody had calculated a bra size for the Venus de Milo, can’t remember the size but Inbelieve she was equally under endowed in the anatomy stakes!
Michelangelo has a lot to answer for. :flowers_2:
